Lady A singer Charles Kelley has revealed he is battling a rare form of blood cancer after doctors discovered the disease following a string of unexplained injuries.
Kelley said he has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma after suffering several “random rib fractures” that prompted his doctor to order additional testing.
The 44-year-old country star shared the diagnosis with fans in an emotional Instagram video, saying he wanted to be open about the health battle in the same way he has publicly discussed his sobriety journey.
“I think in the same spirit of the way we’ve kind of shared a lot of my sobriety journey, just getting this stuff off your chest is so freeing, and it takes the power away from it a little bit that we wanted to let y’all know what was going on,” he told fans in the video shared on Instagram. “And we’re going to get through it.
“In sobriety, it’s all about one day at a time and that we’re not in control, and, so, that’s the way we’re looking at it.”
Kelley said he expects to spend roughly the next six months undergoing treatment but plans to continue working and performing whenever possible.
“I believe it’s not going to be too super invasive. I can still work,” he said. “I think, physically, I will feel like myself. I’ll have tough days, but you know, I want to keep working.”
The singer made clear that staying active and spending time with his family will remain priorities as he begins treatment.
“I need to be happy and doing what I love to do and spending and soaking up as much time with my family as I can as well,” he said.
Kelley also struck an optimistic tone as he prepares for the months ahead.

“It’s just another hurdle, and I’m pretty confident that we’re going to get through it,” he explained.
Lady A became one of country music’s biggest crossover acts with hits including “Need You Now,” helping turn Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood into household names.
Kelley has also built a solo career outside the group, including his Grammy-nominated collaboration “The Driver” with Dierks Bentley and Eric Paslay.
The cancer diagnosis comes several years after Kelley stepped away from touring to focus on another deeply personal battle.
In 2022, Lady A postponed its “Request Line Tour” so Kelley could focus on his sobriety.
He later entered treatment and credited his wife, Cassie, along with Scott and Haywood, for standing by him throughout the recovery process.
Kelley said that experience has shaped the way he is approaching his latest challenge, taking the diagnosis one day at a time while refusing to let it stop him from doing what he loves.
