While the 49ers called Jed York’s prostitution sting arrest on Sunday “a legal matter, which has been resolved,” it doesn’t seem like that resolution will lead to any public appearances in the immediate future.
At Wednesday’s one-day NFL owners meeting in Atlanta, York was conspicuously absent, as first reported by Mark Maske of Front Office Sports. Maske later added on X, “Al Guido is believed to be representing the 49ers at today’s NFL owners’ meeting. Jed York has not been spotted to this point.”
It is not uncommon for teams to have multiple representatives, outside of the principal owner, at owners meetings, and Guido is the new CEO of the 49ers organization, a title he gained back in February. However, Guido’s attendance is particularly conspicuous given the recent legal trouble that York has encountered, which some have speculated could lead to major leadership shake-up within the San Francisco sports organization.
East Palestine Police Department arrested York in Ohio on Sunday as part of an online prostitution sting operation conducted by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. He was initially charged with engaging in prostitution, according to court records, but that was later amended to disorderly conduct and possession of criminal tools. The Niners’ principal owner pleaded no contest to the charges, was ordered to pay $1,150 in fines and sentenced to two days in jail (one for each charge, which were served concurrently).
York has not been around the team facilities during training camp. Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters Tuesday that the 46-year-old executive had moved to Ohio, near where he grew up in Youngstown, for the summer. According to court records, York and his wife started divorce proceedings in May.
