Michael Mann was injured after he accidentally shot himself at a Los Angeles gun range.
The 83-year-old director — who helmed films including Miami Vice, Heat, Collateral, Thief and more — accidentally shot himself in the leg around 4 p.m. local time on Saturday, Oct. 31, according to a representative for Mann and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
“On Saturday, at a gun range, a weapon accidentally discharged while holstered, resulting in a superficial injury to film director Michael Mann. He was treated and is being released,” Mann’s spokesperson tells PEOPLE.
The LAPD, without providing an identity, adds in its own statement to PEOPLE, “Yesterday at around 4 p.m., officers responded to the 11000 block of Missouri Avenue for a radio call for shots fired at that location. Responding units’ investigation determined the shooting to be accidental. The subject was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. An injury report was completed.”
TMZ, citing a source, said the incident took place at The Range LA. The outlet was first to report the news.
The LAPD confirmed to TMZ that police and the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to the scene of the shooting incident.
