Ukrainians received a massive scare over the weekend.
On Sunday, Ukrainians were alerted on their air-raid apps to a nuclear radiation hazard and a chemical attack.
After the alert went out, many citizens panicked until officials revealed it was a false alarm.
Fox News provided further details on the scare and revealed a hack was the cause of the false alert:
Ukraine officials said the country’s official air-raid alert app was likely hacked after emergency alerts warned on Sunday that there was a “radiation hazard” and a “chemical attack alert” in Kyiv.
The false warnings urged residents not to go outside.
“There is a radiation hazard alert in Kyiv. Do not go outside!” read one alert.
“There is a chemical attack alert in Kyiv. Do not go outside!” another one read.
The public air alert online map also displayed Kyiv and other areas as under a nuclear alert. The app also issued false warnings about Russia’s hypersonic Oreshnik missile and alleged street fighting in Kyiv.
Additionally, loudspeakers in the streets blasted a recorded message instructing people to take precautions.
But Ukraine’s Air Force said its air alert app was hacked and that there was no radiation hazard to be concerned about.
“The air alert app appears to have been subjected to enemy influence. There is no radiation threat! Stay calm and follow our updates on our channel!” the Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement posted to Telegram.
Ukraine’s Center for Strategic Communications blamed Russia for the incident, although no group had publicly claimed responsibility.
Here are the alerts Ukrainians received:
Ukraine and Russia were hit by fake nuclear threat alerts just hours apart.
It started in Ukraine, where the country's air raid warning app suddenly told people in Kyiv that radiation had been detected.
But that wasn't all.
More alerts followed, warning of a chemical…

In recent months, hacks have been on the rise.
The most recent was a hack of the crypto exchange Binance, which resulted in over $6 billion worth of crypto being stolen.
Fox Business reported who was behind the heist:
The FBI said Saturday that North Korean hackers were responsible for stealing more than $6 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance this week, linking one of the largest digital asset thefts in history to the regime in Pyongyang.
The announcement marks the first public confirmation from U.S. federal investigators of North Korea’s role in the attack, following earlier assessments from private cybersecurity researchers.
The FBI identified the North Korean cyber activity as “TraderTraitor,” saying the hackers stole more than $6 billion in virtual assets from Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, on Thursday.
The FBI said it and its partners at the U.S. Secret Service and IRS Criminal Investigation observed the hackers converting stolen assets primarily into Ethereum (ETH).
