DSA platform is a ‘blueprint for destroying the US government’: Byron York

Washington Examiner chief political correspondent Byron York argued that Democratic Socialists of America have handed Republicans a potent campaign issue heading into the 2026 midterm elections.

“The DSA has been very helpful in publishing a platform in the last couple of weeks, which is basically, if you read it, is a blueprint for destroying the U.S. government,” York said on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle on Wednesday.

The DSA, the nation’s largest socialist political organization, frames its platform around transferring power from corporations to workers, with the stated goal of dismantling capitalism in favor of democratically controlled resources, all built on principles of working-class democracy, social equality, and systemic reform.

York pointed to the DSA’s proposals and predicted that its platform would become a major talking point for GOP candidates in upcoming elections.

“They would abolish the Senate. They would create a new sort of super House of Representatives. They would get rid of the presidency and the Supreme Court, and replace them with a new sort of executive underneath the Congress,” York said. “I think it’s going to be a really rich source of information for Republicans who are running against Democrats or Democratic socialists in the midterms.”

York also criticized the DSA’s economic proposal, arguing it promises expansive government benefits without a realistic funding mechanism. “And of course, everything would be free. They promise everything: free school, free jobs, free everything, not too much work. Everything provided by the government,” he said.

York noted the DSA’s intent to finance those initiatives through a wealth tax targeting the nation’s richest Americans, an approach he argued is ultimately unsustainable. “Socialism always runs out of money because they run out of other people’s money to use,” York said.

York argued that confiscating wealth from high-income Americans could not permanently sustain the platform’s proposals. “That’s what will happen here, that is the entire basis for the DSA platform,” he said, framing the DSA’s proposal as political ammunition Republicans are likely to use.
