President Donald Trump has just under two weeks to help Republicans hold on to their congressional majorities, and he is building a growing list of investment announcements and promises to voters in hopes of boosting GOP turnout in the 2026 midterm elections.
For at least a month, the president has been peppering both executive actions and promises of cash payouts into his midterm campaign schedule and social media posts. A senior White House official said Tuesday that the president plans to make one of these announcements at every rally between now and Nov. 3.
Many of Trump’s future promises would require assistance from Congress, and he has made it clear to voters that these handouts will only come to fruition if the GOP retains control of both the House and Senate. Others, enacted via executive action, are directly tied to the Republican candidates running for office in those states.
Some voters remain skeptical about the motive behind Trump’s blitz of financial announcements. Voters in North Carolina told the Washington Examiner that the state will need billions to fully recover from Hurricane Helene in 2024. Still, other voters expressed appreciation for the deluge of White House assistance.
“I think that will be helpful. I live in an area that was really hit hard, and there’s still a lot of neighbors who are struggling and need help,” said Mindy Towns, a 61-year-old retiree from Marion, North Carolina. “So I think we have to get through the elections first.”
Gregory Schneider, a 67-year-old retiree from Hendersonville, North Carolina, said Trump’s promises are “good.”
“We need it. I mean, we got done hard here,” he explained. “This area was hit the hardest.”
