The Blue Tsunami Nobody Voted For

Guest Post by Peter St. Onge

Americans didn’t vote for Democrats. They voted against Washington.

[Special Note to Monthly Newsletter Subscribers: I was caught off guard by the sharp tech correction following the election. I incorrectly assumed markets priced it in since prediction markets forecast a blue sweep months ago. And I’m taking the same losses in my own portfolio — I always eat my own cooking. We could see some rebound into the traditional Santa Claus rally, but I think it’s prudent to take some chips off the table until tech policy clears.]

Republicans just got their seats handed to them in a blue tsunami.

Plunging the republic into a two-year clown show that – spoiler alert – will accomplish precisely nothing angry voters wanted.

But it will punish Republicans for failing to deliver what they’ve been promising since Nixon — a smaller government, lower inflation, and an America-first foreign policy.

As of Wednesday morning, Democrats look set to win 40-plus House seats — their biggest House majority since 1993. And they flipped 7 Senate seats, winning 11 of the 14 races that decided the chamber. Including Texas, Kansas, and South Carolina.

So it was ugly.

But before Democrats pop the bubbly, they might keep in mind this election wasn’t about backing the blue. In fact, just 29% of voters view the Democratic Party positively in NBC’s final poll — worse than the GOP’s 38%.

It was about punishing Congress for failing to fix anything.

After two years of a Democrat Congress failing even harder — with gender swaps for illegals thrown in for laughs — voters will hate Democrats with the same ardor they display for the Grand Old Party.

Everybody Saw It Coming

Now, Republicans in Congress should have seen Tuesday coming. Prediction market Kalshi was flashing a blue wave way back in May — traders already had Democrats at 76% to take the House, with the Iran war still smoldering and the SAVE Act to fix election fraud still in play.

Republicans, shockingly, ignored the warnings.

But the most fascinating number isn’t the Republican losses.

It’s the fact that fully 85% of voters told Gallup that both parties don’t deserve reelection — a record. Toss the bums, tear out the plumbing, gut Congress no matter which party.

As in voters despise the uniparty whether it’s wearing red or blue.

Hilariously, it’s a long-standing rule of thumb in Washington that the president’s party loses the midterms — 9 times out of 10 in the past century.

As in once voters actually taste what Washington’s cooking, they always hate it.

250 Years of Bait and Switch

This isn’t how it’s supposed to work in a democracy. In theory voters can choose what’s for dinner, and after 250 years there should be some decent meals on the menu.

In fact, after 250 years, every meal is garbage.

And the reason, of course, is neither party serves their voters. They serve the special interests that bankroll their campaigns, shower them with lobbying money, and reward them with cushy half-million-dollar jobs when they leave Congress.

The donors get to eat. The voters get the bill.

In short, on Tuesday Americans didn’t vote for Democrats. They voted against Washington. Like they’ve been doing for decades, with nothing to show for it.

What’s Next

Democrats will now spend two years investigating Trump and the cabinet, blocking nominees — no more judges for Trump — pushing trillion-dollar handouts that will get vetoed, and threatening shutdowns.

So gridlock and show trials.

Voters, of course, will get nothing: unaffordable housing, medical bankruptcy, crushing taxes, and groceries on layaway.

Because neither party wants to close the auction house. They just take turns running it.

Bottom line, eight in ten Americans may want to gut Washington.

But the other two bought Washington.

And they’ll switch horses without missing a beat.
