President Trump and Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp announced that German automaker Audi would build its first U.S. manufacturing facility in the state.

“Headquartered in Ingolstadt, Germany, Audi plans to invest approximately $4 billion in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at the Middle Georgia Megasite, delivering approximately 4,500 new jobs to middle Georgia,” a press release from Kemp’s office read.

“We are proud that Audi has selected Georgia as the home of their first U.S. manufacturing facility, delivering truly historic investment and jobs to middle Georgia,” said Kemp.

“Following the success we’ve enjoyed with other megasites, we purchased and made more improvements to the Middle Georgia Megasite for just this purpose: to bring a job-creating, high-caliber automotive manufacturer to this region. I want to thank the countless professionals from Peach, Macon-Bibb, and Houston counties in the Mid-Georgia Gateway JDA who helped make this happen. We are excited for hardworking Georgians in Peach County and the entire middle Georgia region to benefit from this project for decades to come. On behalf of the State of Georgia, we are honored to welcome Audi to our state!” he added.

CNBC shared further:

The plant, set to be Audi’s first in the U.S., was announced Saturday by President Donald Trump during a rally in Georgia, near where the Volkswagen-owned luxury brand plans to build the new SUV-producing facility.

“We have significantly greater ambitions for Audi in America,” Audi CEO Gernot Dollner said during a media roundtable Sunday. “The United States is the second largest premium market in the world, and today we are not fully exploiting this potential. We are changing that.”

The announcement comes amid an intense restructuring of its VW parent company, including plans to cut 50,000 jobs and close four German plants, including an Audi facility, between 2031 and 2034.

Dollner, who joined Trump at the rally, said the decision for a plant in the U.S. was years in the making, with more than 70 locations evaluated over “many months” and “intense” negotiations with public officials.

“This is not a decision against Germany. Germany remains the backbone of Audi,” Dollner said. “We develop our cars here. Our technologies are created here, and Georgia does not take any task away from us in Germany.”

“We have much greater ambitions for Audi in America, and Georgia will play a central role in making them a reality. With its strong business environment, skilled workforce, and shared ambition, the state is an ideal partner for Audi,” said Döllner.

“We are proud to bring our engineering excellence and pioneering spirit to Georgia. Together, we want to create something that goes far beyond a manufacturing plant: a new home for Audi in America, opportunities for thousands of people and a strong foundation for long-term growth. This investment will bring us closer to our customers and strengthen Audi’s competitiveness around the world,” he continued.

The president also touted what he described as $40 billion in broader auto industry investments that he said would create 30,000 jobs.

Trump credited Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick with helping secure the deal and invited Audi executives to join him onstage, including Audi CEO Gernot Döllner and Audi North America President Vito Paladino.

Döllner thanked the president for his support, saying the investment would have a significant impact.
