Rep. Nancy Mace’s ex-fiancé and two of his business associates were charged with sex crimes and voyeurism on Wednesday in connection with an alleged incident the South Carolina congresswoman discussed last year on the House floor.
“Brendan Patrick Bryant, 53, Ms. Mace’s former fiancé, was charged with voyeurism,”
The New York Times stated.
“John Douglas Osborne, 46, whom Ms. Mace described in her speech as Mr. Bryant’s business associate, was charged with first-degree assault and battery and two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct,” the outlet added.

The New York Times:
Eric Bernard Bowman, 46, another of Mr. Bryant’s business associates, was charged with voyeurism, obstruction of justice and publishing the name of a victim of criminal sexual conduct.
The three men were booked into the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center in Charleston County. The charges stem from events that occurred on an evening in October 2018 in Charleston, S.C.
The victim, a woman who was 23 years old at the time of the incident, had fallen into a pool and later passed out on a couch, where she lay covering herself with a pillow after removing her wet clothes, according to an arrest affidavit. The police described her as drunk and incapacitated, according to the records.
Mr. Osborne then performed sex acts on her while Mr. Bryant and Mr. Bowman watched, according to the documents.
The men discussed who should assault the woman first, and they photographed and recorded the assault, according to the affidavit.
The episode came to light after it was captured on a security system feed, according to the affidavit. A witness monitoring the feed wrote a detailed account of the incident, according to court records.
The charge against Mr. Bowman of publishing a victim’s name stems from his posting of the woman’s name along with a video of her on social media, according to the affidavit.
The alleged assault took place before Mace and Bryant got engaged.
Their engagement was called off in 2023.
Meanwhile, Mace has introduced the Stop VOYEURS Act (officially the Stop Victimizers and Offenders from Yielding Explicit Unconsented Recordings Surreptitiously Act).
“A hidden camera can destroy a life. The punishment should fit the crime. Right now, federal video voyeurism law applies only in limited federal jurisdictions, such as certain federal land and property, vessels, and aircraft. The maximum penalty is just one year. This is unacceptable,” Mace said on Thursday.
“The violation doesn’t end when the camera is found. The images are uploaded, shared, sold, and spread across the internet forever. Victims are forced to live with the consequences for life. Our Stop VOYEURS Act closes these loopholes by expanding the scope of the criminal prohibition and raises the maximum penalty from one year to five years. Predators belong behind bars, not with a slap on the wrist,” she continued.

The
New York Post shared further:
Mace made the accusations against the three men public in a dramatic February 2025 speech on the House floor.
Bryant later sued her for defamation, but Mace claimed protections under the Constitution’s Speech or Debate Clause.
“I accidentally uncovered some of the most heinous crimes against women imaginable — we are talking about rape, nonconsensual photos, nonconsensual videos of women and underage girls, and the premeditated, calculated exploitation,” Mace revealed in her shocking speech.
“Today you will hear about the depraved men behind these gutless, evil acts,” she added. “These men didn’t just harm their victims; they recorded their depravity as if it were a badge of honor.”
