U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.
A report is charging that the federal government’s investigation of Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Somali native representing a Somali immigrant-dominated district in Minnesota, has as its goal to denaturalize and deport her.
WND has reported that the Department of Justice has gone to court to revoke the citizenship of about 40 “Americans” over just the last six weeks, as authorities race toward their goal of filing 250 such cases by the end of the month.
The surge more than doubles the number of such cases that have been filed since President Donald Trump returned to office in January 2025.
Attorney General Todd Blanche has confirmed that already there have been 40 cases brought by the DOJ between Aug. 28 and Oct. 2.
That he said, is the “largest denaturalization effort in modern history.”
“Under President Trump’s leadership, the Department of Justice will continue to employ the denaturalization process to maintain our national security and protect the American people,” Blanche said Tuesday.
Now the Wall Street Journal is charging that the investigators looking into alleged immigration document fraud in Omar’s case are building a case “to strip her of her U.S. citizenship and ultimately deport her.”
The allegations are serious. There are charges that she changed her date of birth so that she would have been 17 when her late father became a citizen, not 18 and an adult herself, as her originally documented birth date suggests.
Why that change was made is the subject of investigation, as it was made after she was elected to Congress.
A report at Arab News, citing the WSJ, said, “The Donald Trump administration is seeking to build a case to strip Rep. Ilhan Omar of her US citizenship and ultimately deport her.”
Investigators are looking into how she got her citizenship after arriving in the U.S. as a refugee from Somalia, the report said.
Authorities have searched her home and issued a dozen grand jury subpoenas to various people, including her relatives.
The report states: “The inquiry is examining whether Omar or her late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, misrepresented her age in immigration paperwork, potentially allowing her to obtain citizenship through him rather than via a separate application.”
Further, there are suggestions that her father had been a high-ranking officer in a dictatorship in Somalia before claiming refugee status to come to the United States.
Omar says it’s all political harassment.
Further investigation topics are her financial disclosure statements, which said her net worth rose from $50,000 to $30 million in a year, then plunged back down the next. Also there have been multiple allegations she married a brother in order to give him status in the United States.
Omar was born in Mogadishu, Somalia, allegedly in 1982, although that birth year originally was documented as 1981.
Rep. Randy Fine, a Republican and longtime Omar critic, welcomed the investigation, the report said.
He said, “Ilhan Omar hates America but loves nothing more than to take from it. Somali fraud isn’t anything new at this point, but doing it from the halls of Congress would take it to a whole different level. We will get to the bottom of this.”
