Florida Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon said on Wednesday that she wants her Republican opponent, Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL), “locked up” and thrown in jail.
“The fact remains that Ashley Moody is a lying, cheating, thieving, scamming person who basically took $10 million from sick kids for the Medicaid program. And she rerouted that into two political slush funds for Ron DeSantis to defeat two citizen-led ballot initiatives,” Nixon told
CNN host Kasie Hunt, according to
Fox News.
“She also voted to end healthcare for over 440,000 people here in the state of Florida. And they are spreading, like, a lot of disinformation and lies on commercials about me, of saying things like, I want to abolish prisons and I want to defund the police,” she continued.
“Why would I want to do that when I want her locked up and punished in jail for what she has done?” Nixon said.
“And so, you know, we are going to continue to stomp on this campaign trail all across the state, from the Panhandle to the Keys. And we’re looking forward to them calling me senator on November 3rd,” she continued.
“You want your Republican opponent locked up?” Hunt questioned.
“Basically, yes. Because of what she did, yes. I absolutely would want that to happen. Yes,” Nixon responded.

Hunt then asked whether Nixon had sufficient evidence to justify jailing Moody. Nixon responded that she would call for an investigation into the Republican senator.
“What we have seen, right, what we have seen is that the DCA [The District Court of Appeals], the first DCA here, has decided to wipe out the release of the grand jury report, and that first DCA judge was actually appointed by Ron DeSantis. And what we are seeing is corruption through and through. And so, I would definitely call for an investigation as a federal lawmaker when I become a U.S. senator to actively go in to see what happened. People are pissed off. We don’t know how many children are potentially going to die because that $10 million did not go to where it was supposed to go to,” she said.
Nixon also described Moody as a “rubber stamp” for President Donald Trump.
“And so, we need to make sure that we are putting people in Washington, D.C., who actually have the back of hardworking everyday Floridians. I will be calling for a full-on investigation as it relates to what Ashley Moody and them have done. Yes, absolutely,” Nixon added.
Nixon did the interview alongside Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), who did not comment on her remarks.
“I can’t wait until Donald Trump is arrested and held accountable. I will definitely vote to remove him after becoming Florida’s next U.S. Senator,” Nixon said earlier this year.

Nixon is referring to Moody’s time as attorney general in Florida, during which her office approved $10 million from a Medicaid settlement to go to the Hope Florida foundation, an initiative founded by Casey DeSantis, the governor’s wife. Those funds eventually found their way to political action committees.
A Leon County grand jury found that money was “misappropriated,” but no criminal charges were brought due to insufficient evidence, according to CBS News Miami, which obtained the sealed report in August.
“We recognize that this would be an impediment to criminal prosecution,” the report reads. “While we can’t prove who is responsible, we can plainly see that taxpayer money was misused for political purposes and we would like to see changes made to prevent this from happening again.”
