Don’t believe Democrats. Women are safer than ever

Democrats never waste an opportunity to demonize men for political gain, so of course, the Cornell fraternity house incident has become a staple on the campaign trail.

“Seven men drugged and gang raped a 20-year-old woman,” said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) at a campaign event in Ithaca, New York. “They lured her into a fraternity house. They drugged her with ketamine. They then posted to a group chat that she was incapacitated, and seven men took turns gang raping her for seven hours.”

“Their fraternity knew. This was reported to Cornell University,” Ocasio-Cortez continued. “And, after looking into this matter, they expelled two of them and made the rest write essays as their form of punishment. I want to be clear that the culture of rape, sexual assault, and pedophilia is protected in elite institutions across the United States, and including Cornell University in this instance. It has got to stop.”

Where to begin? For starters, the Jane Doe in this case, according to her own lawsuit, drank Tito’s vodka at her own sorority house before going out that night. She then got served more drinks illegally (she’s only 20) at a local bar, consuming 10 drinks in total that night before she ever chose to go to the fraternity to seek out a man she was romantically interested in.

Once there, she danced with the man for several minutes before he proposed a threesome with him and a fraternity brother. She agreed. All three then went upstairs and had sex. Doe’s complaint claims the sex was “forced” but never claims she said “no.”

Furthermore, after being informed by Doe of the incident three weeks after it happened, Cornell immediately performed a full investigation involving more than 50 interviews with 32 witnesses and 12 days of hearings. That effort produced a thorough 99-page panel report that concluded the sex was consensual.

None of this excuses the behavior of the boys at the fraternity that night, and neither did Cornell. In addition to expelling two students, a third was banned from campus (because he had already graduated and therefore could not be expelled), while two others were suspended, and the final two were issued no-contact orders for Doe and “written assignments” related to their charges.

Why would Ocasio-Cortez lie so blatantly about such a high-profile case? For political advantage, of course. As Democrats know from the 2022 midterm elections, nothing drives young women to the polls in an election year like the feeling they are in danger from men.

And young women’s fear of men is growing. Gallup has been asking women how often they worry about being a victim of sexual assault since 2000, and the percentage of young women (and young women only) answering “frequently” or “occasionally” hovered below 40% up until 2015, when it began rising steadily, hitting almost 60% today.

Are young women 50% more likely to be the victim of sexual assault today than they were in 2020? Of course not.

According to the best data available, cases of sexual assault and rape fell 58% between 1995 and 2010, and they have since been flat.

So, if young women are much safer today than they were in the ’90s, why are they so much more afraid of men?

Social media.

Research shows that social media algorithms promote negative content. One study found that YouTube “amplifies negative emotions, such as anger and grievance, by increasing their prevalence and prominence in recommendations.”

A NATION IS MORE THAN A LABOR MARKET

And no app is better at conditioning women to hate and be fearful of men than TikTok. One hotel-safety video from creator @victorias.way attracted more than 14 million views by showing viewers how to cover a peephole and barricade their door with an ironing board, towels, and a clothes hanger. Tagged “#kidnappedinhotel,” the video turned what should feel like an ordinary hotel stay into nightmare fuel.

And Ocasio-Cortez is more than eager to light the match.
