Summary

  • President Donald Trump again held a raucous rally in Ohio, this time in Chillicothe, and this time with protesters forcibly removed.
  • He urged Ohioans to vote to elect Sen. Jon Husted and Vivek Ramaswamy, accusing Husted’s opponent of “backstabbing” the state.
  • Husted reminded the crowd that Barack Obama said manufacturing jobs are not coming back, while Trump has now brought 10,000 back to Ohio alone.

Days before the midterms, President Donald Trump made another appearance in Ohio to rally for Republican candidates in Chillicothe. It was a raucous rally, including the president’s speech being interrupted by multiple protesters.

As the interruptions took place early on, the crowd could be heard loudly booing, and then cheering with chants of “USA” once the protesters were removed.

The president called the protesters “losers,” noting they were “right out of the radical left playbook,” and calling them “sick, weak people” and “paid protesters.”

“We’re going to elect America First Republicans up and down the line,” Trump predicted.

Trump campaigned for Sen. Jon Husted in his special election against former Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, who is seeking a comeback after his 2024 loss to Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno, dubbed by Trump “one of our greatest senators.”

He later brought up that Moreno-Brown race again to praise Ohioans for voting as they did in 2024, calling on them to do it again, this time in favor of Husted, predicting that “Ohio is going to end Sherrod Brown.”

Trump touted not only his administration’s successes and the benefits for Americans, but also how the Buckeye State has been performing.

“Your state has the best numbers in history, and that’s because of what we’ve done, our economic policy,” Trump said. “You have the most jobs you’ve ever had. You’ve had the most success, the most income per individual. But if you get out and vote, we’re going to have two great victories and lots of other Republican victories up and down the line.”

Trump was also there to campaign for Republican Ohio gubernatorial nominee, Vivek Ramaswamy, and promote a ballot initiative to codify voter ID.

The president accused Democrats of opposing voter ID “because they want to cheat” and also mocked Brown’s inability to come up with an answer, despite having been in office for over 50 years.

“But [Brown] backstabbed Ohio. You know, until I came around, Ohio was not a successful state,” Trump said, later reminding the crowd about the loss of manufacturing jobs.

Trump lambasted Brown’s voting record on inflation, energy prices, trade deficits, and open borders, stressing “it was an invasion,” as well as on men being able to compete against women.

On immigration, Trump also brought up the large number Haitian refugees who were placed in Springfield, Ohio, greatly disrupting that small town, adding that the Haitians are now having to leave due to the end of their Temporary Protected Status. The crowd could be heard chanting “deport.” Trump issued a particular warning due to the chaos abroad in France.

“And just in case anyone forgets Sherrod Brown’s treasonous betrayal on the border, take a look at the carnage and chaos his policies unleash. And he was all for it,” Trump reminded, warning “We cannot let him come back.”

“You remember that dark period?” Trump asked the crowd following a video about illegal immigration during the Biden administration. “That was a dark period. But Sherrod Brown when he was senator, your state was doing the worst it ever did. And you had that scene for years. And we’re never going to let that happen to our country again.”

He also took the opportunity to go after Ramaswamy’s Democratic opponent, Amy Acton.

“Sherrod Brown and Amy Acton will take your money to fund unlimited benefits for illegal aliens who kill and steal, loot. Jon Husted and Vivek Ramaswamy will stop the state of Ohio from being invaded, plundered, ransacked,” he said, “They’ll stop it from being, quite honestly, destroyed.”

Trump also addressed Ramaswamy’s ad against Acton involving her estranged mother, Donna Arthur, claiming Acton was a liar and Ohioans should not vote for her. As the Acton campaign brought up in response, Acton suffered childhood sexual abuse at the hands of her stepfather, whom her mother stayed married to until his death.

The ad has been defended by Vice President JD Vance and by Trump himself in a Truth Social post.

“Vivek was treated very unfairly,” Trump repeatedly stressed. “But with Vivek, ‘How dare he put that information?’ What’s to put out? There’s nothing to put out. The mother said that Amy Acton, the daughter, is a liar. That she’s no good. That she lied about the opponent. How the hell is that his problem? Very unfair, and if he were a Democrat, they would have gone the other way. Believe me, it’s a very unfair situation,” Trump argued.

In sharing his administration’s successes, Trump spoke of specific wins for Ohio, including a Bayer manufacturing plant in New Albany and SoftBank Group’s investment of $33 billion in Pike County for a natural gas power plant. As he pointed to steel investments from Cleveland-Cliffs, Trump reminded that “before I came along, steel was dead.”

Trump also issued key reminders about wins for the state thanks to Husted, specifically the Department of War selecting Cleveland as the new home for the Navy’s Component Repair Center for working on submarines. Trump stressed it was “a big deal” and also teased that if Husted wins, he’ll consider putting the Space Academy in Ohio.

As he warned of what could happen if Democrats once more take power, Trump went through a laundry list of their party’s voting record, including unified Democratic opposition to the Working Families Tax Cuts, which Husted was instrumental in getting passed.

“On election night in Ohio, you’re going to prove that America does not belong to those who hate it. America belongs to those like you, who love it,” Trump told the crowd. “So to me, this is one of the most important elections,” he said.

He soon called on Husted to return to the stage for more remarks.

Husted told the story of Kenworth’s concerns about having to close without a fair trade deal, though the senator was able to meet with those from the plant and call the president to get a good deal, not only saving the plant, but adding 1,000 jobs.

“And this is a great thing to remember,” he reminded. “When Barack Obama was president, he said, ‘All of those manufacturing jobs are going to go away. Let’s get used to it.’ Since Donald Trump has been president, in the last 20 months, we’ve added 10,000 manufacturing jobs right here in Ohio.”

Ramaswamy was similarly called back up to the stage, as he painted similarities between the 2024 and 2026 elections, based on “who’s actually going to make your life better.” As he praised Trump for tax cuts, Ramaswamy brought up how he is “going to pass the biggest property tax relief package Ohio has ever seen in our history.”

In speaking of Trump putting Americans first, Ramaswamy also vowed to “put Ohio first” and take “Ohio to the next level.”

Trump began to wind down his remarks with a message of hope for Ohioans and their “spirit,” calling it “an honor” to be there with them as he reminded them once more to vote.

President Trump’s job is to put Americans first. My job is to put Ohioans first. It will be the honor of my lifetime to fight for the people of this state. pic.twitter.com/ayTSMriYFw
