The Trump Boomerang Effect is alive and well, my friends!

Ever since I first noticed it and coined the term “Trump Boomerang Effect” back in 2015, the Trump Boomerang Effect has been taking down once-proud and prominent anti-Trumpers and it just snared a new one today.

L. Louise Lucas.

82-year old state Senator from Virginia, a top Democrat in the state, just got hit with a NASTY federal indictment that really covers a lot of ground.

But what I want to talk about is her arrogant anti-Trump Tweets back in 2023 that are now boomeranging back to bite her ugly (and I do mean U-G-L-Y) ass!

If these charges end up sticking (everyone is innocent until proven guilty) this nasty woman will likely be headed to prison for the rest of her life!

OOPS!

Let’s have a speedy trial and let justice prevail, shall we?

Here are the underlying details:

One of the most powerful Democrats in Virginia has just been hit with a sweeping federal indictment.

State Sen. L. Louise Lucas, the 82-year-old president pro tempore of the Virginia Senate and chairwoman of its powerful Finance and Appropriations Committee, was charged Thursday in a case involving alleged marijuana trafficking, money laundering, public corruption, fraud and firearms offenses.

Federal prosecutors say Lucas helped lead the operation.

The indictment names Lucas and six other defendants, including several relatives, in what authorities describe as a criminal marijuana enterprise operating through a close-knit group of family members and associates.

The alleged operation even had a name in the government’s telling: the “Lucas Enterprise.”

The Virginian-Pilot reports that prosecutors charged the group with an alleged racketeering conspiracy involving marijuana distribution, money laundering, honest-services fraud through bribery, maintaining drug-involved premises, possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking and wire fraud.

The local report says Lucas allegedly approved and directed activities for the enterprise, arranged for the acquisition and distribution of at least 100 kilograms of marijuana and supervised the laundering of marijuana proceeds.

But the most explosive allegation may be what investigators claim they heard on a wiretap.

Will Chamberlain posted an excerpt identified as paragraph 99 of the indictment. It alleges that during a February 9 phone call about pending recreational-marijuana legislation and the possibility of an associate receiving a license, Lucas said this was their “last chance at generational wealth.”

The next line is the one that will get everyone’s attention.

According to the excerpt, Lucas allegedly added: “I’ve got too old to not be greedy.”

That allegation becomes even more serious when placed next to Lucas’s power in Richmond.

She has served in the Virginia Senate since 1992. As president pro tempore, she can preside over the chamber when the lieutenant governor is absent.

As chairwoman of the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee, she controls a key gateway for legislation with any budget impact.

Federal authorities now allege she used that public position to insulate the enterprise from criminal scrutiny and influence legislation for financial gain.

The Associated Press reports that the charges followed FBI searches in May at Lucas’s Portsmouth office and The Cannabis Outlet, a nearby shop in which she has an ownership stake. Lucas has long advocated marijuana legalization, while Virginia still does not permit ordinary recreational retail sales.

The AP also reports that the investigation was opened during the Biden administration — an important detail because Lucas and some allies initially framed the searches as political retaliation by the Trump administration.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the indictment alleges Lucas and her associates ran a multi-year scheme to enrich the enterprise while using her public office to protect it and shape legislation to their benefit.

Lucas’s side is pushing back.

Brian Woolfolk, chief counsel for the L. Louise Lucas Legal Defense Fund, told the AP that this was “the circus we always expected it to be” and said the defense would wait for more details before giving a fuller response.

These are allegations contained in an indictment, not findings of guilt. Lucas and the other defendants are entitled to the presumption of innocence, and prosecutors will have to prove the charges in court.

But the alleged wiretap language — combined with the claim that a senior lawmaker used her office to protect a family-linked enterprise — guarantees this case will now receive intense scrutiny far beyond Virginia.
