CNN’s on-air shakeup widened again Thursday when another international anchor announced she is walking away after nine years with the network.
The anchor is Bianna Golodryga, the veteran journalist who co-hosts CNN International’s One World and serves as a senior global affairs analyst.
Golodryga said she is leaving for a new opportunity she described as impossible to pass up.
She stopped short of revealing where she is headed next.
That announcement was brief, upbeat and unmistakably final.
There was no long goodbye, no destination attached and no suggestion from Golodryga that CNN pushed her out. She thanked her colleagues and promised more news soon.
Still, the timing is difficult to ignore.
Golodryga’s exit comes in the same week that Christiane Amanpour announced she will leave CNN next June after a remarkable 43-year run.
Two departures do not prove a purge, and Golodryga has not connected her decision to CNN’s new corporate ownership.
Losing two familiar CNN International names in a matter of days is still hardly routine background noise.
Golodryga’s nine-year count reaches back to 2017. CBS News announced that September that she had joined the network as a New York-based correspondent while also serving as a CNN contributor.
She moved into a full-time role at CNN in 2019 as a senior global affairs analyst and later became a regular anchor. Her work has centered heavily on Russia, Ukraine, international security and the global economy.
The 2017 arrangement helps explain why Golodryga describes this as a nine-year CNN run even though her full-time appointment came two years later. She was already appearing on CNN while reporting for CBS across its broadcasts and platforms.
By 2023, CNN had elevated her into an anchor role. She eventually became co-host of One World, placing her at the center of the network’s international-news operation.
Her résumé stretches far beyond CNN.
According to Golodryga’s professional biography, she began her television career at CNBC in 2001 as a producer at the New York Stock Exchange. She later became an on-air correspondent and moved to ABC News as the network’s business correspondent.
Golodryga went on to co-anchor the weekend edition of Good Morning America. She later served as a news and finance anchor at Yahoo News before co-hosting CBS This Morning.
That experience made her a versatile presence: part anchor, part interviewer and part analyst. She could move from breaking international news to markets and domestic politics without looking out of place.
Her departure leaves a fresh question hanging over One World, which she co-hosts with Zain Asher. Golodryga did not say how quickly she will leave the program or who might replace her.
The broader backdrop at CNN is already unsettled.
The Associated Press reported that Amanpour will end her daily CNN International program at the close of 2026, move to a weekly schedule in January, and leave the network in June after 43 years. Her CNN career began in 1983 when she joined the company as an entry-level assistant in Atlanta.
She also plans to end her PBS program, Amanpour & Company, while continuing her podcast. Amanpour did not publicly blame CNN’s ownership change for her decision.
The announcement nevertheless arrived as the network entered a new corporate era following Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.
Amanpour said the decision followed months of thought and several sleepless nights. CNN chief Mark Thompson praised her record and said the network would celebrate her work before she leaves.
Her final months will therefore amount to a long, public handoff rather than an immediate disappearance from CNN’s international lineup.
That makes Golodryga’s same-week announcement especially striking. CNN International is preparing to lose one of its defining figures while another established anchor heads for an undisclosed opportunity.
Neither announcement proves the network is collapsing, and speculation should not be dressed up as fact.
The departures do create immediate programming and leadership questions for a global operation already in transition.
Whatever viewers think of CNN’s coverage, this is a significant personnel change at a network already going through a major transition.
Golodryga clearly knows what comes next. The rest of us will have to wait for the reveal.
