Barack Obama and Donald Trump at Jimmy Carter’s funeral on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025
President Trump Monday offered his response to former President Obama’s recent slur against the work “47” has done to beautify and modernize the White House – and, predictably, he did not hold back.
As WorldNetDaily reported, Obama used part of a speech over the weekend rallying for Democrats facing voters in the midterms to mock the projects Trump has completed at the executive mansion, including installing pavers in the Rose Garden, building a new ballroom and installing a helipad on the White House lawn.
Obama also took issue with the amount of gold Trump has used in the building, saying, “There’s gold everywhere. What’s with the gold? He’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory.”
Many Trump supporters online rebutted Obama, saying the remark was condescending toward middle-class Americans who patronize the popular restaurant chain, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent ate at one of the establishments for lunch in solidarity.
Now the president is explaining the benefit of White House renovations, saying that overseeing the projects take five or 10 minutes of his time a day and that Obama never noticed the “dirt and filth” on the building when he was living there.
Then Trump, a lifelong builder, looks directly in the camera as he speaks to a reporter and sternly addresses Obama directly:
“The White House, President Obama, is a symbol of America. It has to be clean. The columns can’t be broken. The bricks can’t be falling off under the plaster. And for you to say it’s a Cheesecake Factory, that just shows why you were a lousy president.”
