A woman was arrested on charges of threatening to shoot President Donald Trump at his campaign rally in Daytona Beach, Florida, on Friday night, but she claimed the social media post in which she made the threat was a “joke.”
Allison Albro, 21, faces charges of written threats to kill and unlawful use of a communications device, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood announced on Friday ahead of the rally.
Albro allegedly posted a message on Thursday night that read: “Going to the trump rally in my city tmr so I can shoot him with my glock! wish me luck guys !!”
Chitwood said Albro told officers that she was joking with the post, didn’t have access to a Glock handgun or any other weapon, and would never hurt anyone. The sheriff advised the public to think before posting a “joke” to assassinate the president.
Shortly after writing the post, Albro received a visit from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Domestic Security Unit and the Secret Service.
Chitwood said the sheriff’s office will be working with the Secret Service, FBI, and other law enforcement partners to ensure Trump’s rally is a “safe event for all who attend, and for our whole community.” Local officials warned residents that strict security measures may result in road closures and traffic delays while Trump is in the area.

The rally comes four days before the election, and it’s expected to be followed by now-rescheduled rallies in Iowa and Kansas this Sunday. The president was previously supposed to hold tele-rallies for the two red states after initially canceling the in-person campaign rallies, but he changed his mind on Friday.
