On Tuesday night, the country watched as the American people made their choice for the makeup of the next Congress. It was not the outcome any of us in the Republican Party wanted, especially knowing that many of my colleagues will not be joining us in the 120th Congress. The next two years will be a completely different environment as we expect the Democrat Party to fight with President Donald Trump every step of the way, using every trick and investigation in the book to disrupt his agenda and the remainder of his term.
But our work is not finished. In the remaining hours of our Republican majority, it is not the time to wave the white flag to the Left. It is time to finish the job.
Starting on Nov. 9, we have 20 days left on the legislative calendar and a handful of unfinished business on the table, including a looming government funding deadline and a powerhouse reconciliation bill that will protect the conservative wins we have secured.
The House Appropriations Committee has advanced all 12 fiscal 2027 funding bills, but only three have passed the House as the clock ticks toward the beginning of December. As we have seen with the two manufactured Democrat government shutdowns this year, the paychecks, benefits, and essential services Americans rely on are at stake when Washington fails to meet its due dates.
At the same time, our nation is currently facing a staggering debt of nearly $41 trillion, and we now spend over $1 trillion a year just on interest. This Congress, House Republicans reversed the status quo — securing $1.1 trillion in spending cuts made possible by the Working Families Tax Cuts. From cracking down on taxpayer-funded health care for illegal aliens to rolling back Green New Deal subsidies, we proved that a disciplined, conservative approach to the budget can successfully push back against decades of Washington’s bad habits.
THE DEMOCRATS HAVE A CHRISTIANITY PROBLEM — TRUMP’S GOP IS JUST AS LOST
As a member who came to Congress to do government differently and rein in reckless spending, I will not allow that to be thrown away because of an election outcome. We have an opportunity to finish the appropriations process in a fiscally responsible way and pass another reconciliation bill that further roots out the waste, fraud, and abuse that have drained taxpayer dollars and made it increasingly difficult to fund the programs Americans depend on.
Our constituents did not send us to Washington to stop fighting just because the political landscape has shifted. They elected us to be good stewards of their hard-earned tax dollars, a responsibility that does not end until the very last moment we hold the gavel. Walking away now leaves the country vulnerable to more out-of-control spending. We owe the families we represent a secure financial future.
