President Donald Trump is reportedly slated to have dinner with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei at the White House, opening up a chance to warm their long, frosty relationship.
Trump and Amodei have long been at loggerheads, a dispute that first arose over the AI leader’s refusal to give the Pentagon unfettered access to Anthropic’s top models. Amodei’s recent calls to slow down AI development have also clashed with Trump’s full-speed-ahead preference. The dismal state of their relationship was showcased on Thursday, when Amodei was the only major AI figure not invited to the White House dinner Trump hosted for Chinese President Xi Jinping.
That could see a reversal on Sunday, when Trump is planning to host Amodei at a private dinner at the White House, sources familiar with the matter told Axios.
The one-on-one dinner will be the first individual meeting of the two.
When reached for comment, a White House official told the Washington Examiner, “President Trump has been clear: America will lead the world in Super Intelligence, while protecting American consumers. We will drive innovation, strengthen American competitiveness, and ensure this transformative technology works for the American people.”

Amodei is one of the most important figures in the AI industry, with Anthropic’s Claude considered one of the most powerful AI models in existence. The Trump administration seems to think so as well, as it was reportedly used in both the capture of former Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro and the war with Iran.
Aside from thawing their relationship, the meeting could also serve as a way for the two to talk out their differences in AI safety and development, as their views have increasingly diverged.
