President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he offered the role of White House press secretary to UFC CEO Dana White, a longtime ally.

“I am pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States,” the president posted on Truth Social. “I have requested that he bring with him assistants, even though some are not from our Country, of Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Kayla Harris.”

The president previously attempted to replace former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who left after the birth of her second child, with Katie Zacharia. Zacharia’s time at the White House ended after only five days, beating Anthony Scaramucci’s previously record-setting 11-day tenure.

Trump urged White to take his offer.

“We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left,” the president continued. “Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!”

The UFC CEO’s relationship with the president dates back to the early 2000s, when Trump hosted mixed martial arts fights at his properties. Since then, their relationship has remained strong, with White speaking at the 2016, 2020, and 2024 Republican National Conventions. He also organized the UFC Freedom 250 exhibition event at the White House in June.

White has donated to support Republican campaigns in recent elections, including a $1 million contribution to America First Action super PAC in 2019.

The UFC CEO regularly stumped for Trump on the campaign trail and organized Trump’s appearances on podcasts oriented toward young men during the 2024 campaign season. White has also gained a reputation as a cultural warrior against progressive priorities, sharply criticizing political correctness.

Despite his close relationship with the president, the UFC CEO has pushed back against criticism that he is too partisan.

“I consider myself right down the middle, and I’m for common sense,” White said on Plan Bri with Brianna LaPaglia. “That’s what I’m for. Do I lean a little right right now? Yes, on some things, but I lean left on a lot of things too. And I think that we live in this world right now.”

Shortly after the 2024 election, White expressed a desire to leave politics.

“I’m never f***ing doing this again,” White told the New Yorker. “I want nothing to do with this s***. It’s gross. It’s disgusting.”

But White made clear that his admiration for Trump had not diminished.

“Donald Trump is tougher and more badass than anybody,” White said. “You can only pray that you’re a quarter of the man that Donald Trump was when a guy tried to take seven shots at his head with a high-powered rifle with a f***ing scope on it.”
