You may not like this year’s half time performer but at least it will be in English.

After last year’s Super Bowl halftime performance received backlash after Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny took to the field and performed in Spanish, the NFL has reportedly taken a different route.

New reports have revealed rapper Jay-Z will headline the halftime show.

Fox News reported more on the details behind Jay-Z’s selection and why there is a clear conflict of interest:

Jay-Z did not have to look too long and hard for the performer for this year’s Super Bowl halftime performance, as the 25-time Grammy Award winner has reportedly selected himself to take the stage at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., just outside of Los Angeles.

According to Puck News, Jay-Z has given the nod to himself over Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, who were reportedly considered to be finalists to get the gig for the halftime show for Super Bowl LXI. TMZ previously reported that Harry Styles was also among frontrunners for February’s halftime performance.

Jay-Z and his entertainment company, Roc Nation, have been the producers and decision-makers of the Super Bowl halftime show since 2019.

The 56-year-old rap icon will wrap up his four-city tour with back-to-back shows at SoFi Stadium on Oct. 23 and 24. The Jay-Z 30 Tour celebrates the 30th anniversary of his 1996 debut album, ‘Reasonable Doubt,’ and it has been wildly successful, with Puck reporting that he grossed more than $42 million across three consecutive nights of shows held at Yankee Stadium in July.

Here’s how social media reacted:

Jay-Z would rather book himself for the Super Bowl than book a white artist like Carrie Underwood or Morgan Wallen.

This is the very definition of racism. https://t.co/PFaS8jXqHT

The New York Post noted it would be the rapper’s first halftime show performance:

Jay-Z has never performed at the Super Bowl.

Beyonce, his wife and the mother of their three children, headlined the halftime show at Super Bowl 2013 in New Orleans, Louisiana — and she returned as a special guest alongside Bruno Mars during Coldplay’s headlining performance atSuper Bowl 2016 in Santa Clara.

Jay-Z, a 25-time Grammy winner, hasn’t released an album since 2017’s “4:44,” which went double-platinum.
