A family trip to Six Flags turned into an unimaginable nightmare Monday when a father plunged to his death from Georgia’s tallest roller coaster while riding alongside his son, leaving horrified witnesses scrambling to comprehend what they had just seen.
The unidentified man was reportedly thrown from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia in Austell, just outside Atlanta, during a Columbus Day outing with his family.
His son was riding with him when the tragedy unfolded, while his wife and daughter watched from the ground, according to local television station WXIA.
Witnesses described the horrifying moment the man suddenly left his seat, striking parts of the roller coaster multiple times before reportedly landing on the roof of a nearby haunted house attraction.
One parkgoer claimed the terrifying fall was even captured in a souvenir photograph taken during the ride.
“He was in our pictures,” the witness told WXIA. “He fell and hit the car three different times.”
Another rider, Logan Conner, who was aboard Goliath with his fiancée, recalled the chilling moment he realized something had gone terribly wrong.
Conner said the man “started levitating in the air sideways.”
“We made direct eye contact with him,” he added.
The horrifying scene also unfolded in front of Brittany Landry, who was waiting to board another attraction approximately 150 feet away.

Landry said she witnessed “somebody fly out and just fly into the woods” before learning that the man had died.
“I broke down,” she recalled. “I just broke down.”
“I broke because we were just on there. We were just, we were on there.”
Emergency responders rushed to the amusement park shortly before 4 p.m., where authorities confirmed one person had died and several others were injured.
The Cobb County Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit has launched an investigation into the deadly incident.
Officials have not publicly identified the victim or determined what caused him to fall from the ride. The circumstances surrounding the additional injuries also remain unclear.
Six Flags released a statement expressing condolences to the victim’s family and confirming its cooperation with investigators.
“We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected,” a park spokesperson said.
“The park team and local authorities responded immediately, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities as they complete their investigation. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing additional details at this time.”
Video circulating online showed stranded passengers being carefully escorted down an emergency staircase after the massive roller coaster was brought to a halt.
Goliath, which opened in 2006, towers 200 feet above the park and reaches speeds of approximately 70 mph during its three-and-a-half-minute ride.
Following the fatal accident, Six Flags temporarily shut down nine roller coasters across six amusement parks as a precaution.
Investigators must now determine how a routine amusement park ride ended in tragedy, with particular attention on the circumstances that allowed the man to leave his seat.
For one family, what should have been a holiday filled with excitement instead ended with a father never coming home.
