After the Democrats’ midterm sweep, rumors have been swirling that President Trump may be eyeing a major leadership shakeup.

Specifically, the media is speculating that President Trump may be considering firing Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.

Take this report from CBS News, for example:

President Trump has been asking advisers around him and on the phone whether Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth should stay in his job, following Republicans' losses Tuesday night, multiple sources familiar with the matter tell CBS News.

President Trump has been asking advisers around him and on the phone whether Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth should stay in his job, following Republicans’ losses Tuesday night, multiple sources familiar with the matter tell CBS News.

Some White House aides have predicted some of the blame for GOP midterm losses will be trained on Adm. Brad Cooper, the head of U.S. Central Command, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine, who both played big roles in guidance on Iran war.

However, this appears to be yet another fabricated story from the fake news.

When asked directly, President Trump denied the prospect of removing Hegseth.

“No. He’s doing a very good job,” President Trump told reporters on Wednesday.

He was also asked if Pete Hegseth might be in the cards to fulfill Marsha Blackburn’s open Senate seat, now that she has been elected Governor of Tennessee.

In response, President Trump also shut down that idea but noted that Hegseth would be “very popular if he did that.”

BREAKING: President Trump announces he’s NOT looking to fire SecWar Pete Hegseth just because Republicans lost the midterms

“NO. He’s doing a very good job.”

Q: You don’t want him to fill Marsha Blackburn’s Senate seat?

TRUMP: “He’d be very popular if he did that, but I haven’t heard that at all.”

The media’s fake news reports had suggested that Florida Gov. DeSantis was being floated as a potential replacement for Pete Hegseth.

Along with President Trump’s denial, the White House released a statement re-iterating that the president has “full confidence” in Secretary Hegseth.

CBS News shared:

One source told CBS News that GOP Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is being floated as a possible replacement for Hegseth, arguing DeSantis could go through Senate confirmation in the lame-duck period and then take the post when his term as governor expires Jan. 5.

Mr. Trump was asked Wednesday afternoon whether he was considering replacing Hegseth, and he told reporters, “No, I think he’s doing a very good job.” The president was also asked if he’d like to see Hegseth appointed to fill the seat that will be vacated by Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn when she takes office as governor. “I actually think he’d be very popular if he did that,” Mr. Trump said, “but I haven’t heard that at all.”

Asked for comment about reports that Hegseth’s future as defense secretary was in question, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in a statement that the president “has full confidence in Secretary Hegseth.” In the statement, Kelly also praised the military operations in Iran and Venezuela and Hegseth’s efforts to reverse the Biden Pentagon’s prioritizing of “DEI and woke ideology.”

While President Trump has confirmed that Pete Hegseth’s job is safe, Democrats (and some RINOs) are already plotting to oust Hegseth from the role.

The Washington Times noted:

But even if Mr. Trump decides to stick with Mr. Hegseth, a Democratically controlled Congress may move to impeach him anyway, a threat that has dogged the former Fox News host in one form or another since his confirmation in 2025.

High-profile members of the House have openly called for Mr. Hegseth’s impeachment over the past two years.

Adam Smith, Washington Democrat and the ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, said this year he was in favor of impeaching both Mr. Hegseth and Mr. Trump over the Iran war.

Rep. Thomas Massie, the outgoing Kentucky Republican, introduced articles of impeachment against Mr. Hegseth in September, accusing him of violating the 1973 War Powers Resolution.

Still, it’s unclear how much of a priority Democratic leadership places on kicking Mr. Hegseth out of Washington. Hakeem Jeffries, House minority leader and New York Democrat who is expected to become the nation’s first Black speaker, emphasized his party’s commitment to focus on economic issues before moving to impeach Mr. Trump or his Cabinet officials.

“The American people don’t want us to get even. They want us to get things done on their behalf because life is way too expensive,” said Mr. Jeffries.

Prior to taking control of the House, Hakeem Jeffries also promised to “run Pete Hegseth out of town.”

Good luck with that…

What do you think?

Do you want Pete Hegseth to stay right where he is?
