The election returns were barely in before one of the far Left’s favorite online voices started talking about putting conservatives in jail.
Hasan Piker, the socialist streamer embraced by prominent Democrats and tied to Michigan Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed, used his election-night victory lap to threaten conservative commentators and demand that the country get even more “woke.”
Piker commands a massive audience and has growing access to the Democrat Party’s rising stars. His words travel far beyond an anonymous social media feed.
Piker made the threat plain as results showed Democrats taking control of Congress.
Fox News reports that Piker posted the message while replying to conservative commentator Matt Van Swol, who was reacting to the scale of the Democrat victories. Piker then aimed another jail threat at Laura Loomer, celebrated James Talarico’s Senate win in Texas, and demanded that Democrats push further toward socialism.
The report also places those posts in a much bigger political context. El-Sayed brought Piker into Michigan during the campaign, and the two were photographed celebrating together after El-Sayed’s primary victory.
Piker later appeared in Minneapolis with Rep. Ilhan Omar during the closing days of the race.
Democrat candidates have been inviting Piker directly into their campaign ecosystem. He is getting closer to the field while his rhetoric gets uglier.
Piker’s second threat targeted Loomer directly and showed just how casually he was using imprisonment as a punchline against political opponents.
Fox News separately reports that Piker ran an election stream for more than 13 hours, drawing more than 200,000 viewers at points. During the broadcast, he declared that “Trumpism is dying,” imagined President Trump in prison, and argued that socialists should have run in even more Democrat primaries.
Rep. Ro Khanna also appeared on Piker’s stream and defended the idea that more Democrats should engage with him. That appearance matters because it shows how quickly the party’s elected class is becoming comfortable around a figure whose rhetoric would be called an existential threat to democracy if it came from the Right.
Piker did not hide the ideological destination he wants. By Wednesday morning, he was openly urging Democrats in competitive districts to move left and telling his followers to get “more socialist.”
The Left spent years insisting that President Trump’s blunt rhetoric proved Republicans were dangerous authoritarians. Now a streamer welcomed by Democrat officeholders is publicly fantasizing about jailing President Trump and threatening conservative voices while celebrating his side’s new power.
Americans should take that seriously. Political power does not make threats against opponents funny, and attaching “just trolling” to the end does not erase the message being sent to millions of viewers.
The new Democrat majority has a choice. It can reject this ugly rhetoric, or it can keep rewarding the people who say the quiet part out loud.
