U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.
It appears that the horizon just got a lot stormier for Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., who has been known to boast about representing her home country, Somalia.
Her home was raided Monday by federal agents apparently looking into allegations of immigration fraud, about which there have been accusations for years already.
But now it’s her money that is the focus on federal scrutiny.
It involves how she reported her net worth of about $50,000 one year, $30 million the next, and then back to almost nothing.
It was U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro who confirmed her office is investigating Omar’s financial disclosures.
“I can tell you that is subject of an investigation,” Pirro told John Roberts of Fox News. “We’re looking at the facts. Based upon the facts, we’ll follow them wherever they take us.”
Pirro confirmed the review is looking Omar’s documents, which claimed the value of businesses tied to her husband now, Tim Mynett, were worth $51,000 in 2023, then $30 million in 2024. That later was reversed.
President Donald Trump, who long has blasted Omar as unworthy of being in Congress, or even being in America, reacted: “Why did Ilhan Omar report a Net Worth of up to 30 Million Dollars just a short time ago, and then immediately say, ‘Oh, I made a mistake! It’s really $100,000.’ Could it be that her highly paid accountant actually reported the money that was STOLEN from her FRAUDULENT activities in Minnesota?” Trump wondered.
“Where did her house come from, where did her cars come from, and what about her lovely place in Washington, D.C.? I didn’t know that Congressmen and women made that kind of money, but I do know her husband, according to information and belief, makes almost nothing, so it couldn’t have come from him.”
The report confirmed the original filings from Omar showed millions of dollars in newly reported assets associated with two of Mynett’s businesses, a winery and a venture capital firm.
Fox reported, “The winery, eStCru LLC, saw its reported valuation jump from between $15,000 and $50,000 in 2023 to between $1 million and $5 million in 2024. Rose Lake Capital LLC showed an even sharper increase, rising from a reported value of between $1 and $1,000 in 2023 to between $5 million and $25 million the following year.”
But then, when Congress requested documentation on the issue, Omar amended her disclosures to cut the combined reported assets to between $18,000 and $95,000.
Omar claimed at the time that the earlier higher numbers didn’t account for liabilities.
The Office of Congressional Conduct voted 5-1 to recommend that the House Ethics Committee dismiss misconduct allegations stemming from the financial disclosures against Omar.
Omar earlier had challenged, publicly, those who thought she had exhibited behavior worth investigating.
Fox said, “The Somali-born congresswoman has denied allegations of wrongdoing and has accused the Trump administration of targeting her for political reasons — especially after Monday’s raid of her Washington, D.C., residence.”
Omar publicly complained that Trump was obsessed with her:
