King Abdullah II utilized his U.N. General Assembly address on Wednesday to weaponize regional grievances, branding Israel’s post-Oct. 7, 2023, necessary defense strategies as an “expansionist threat” while deliberately ignoring stark geopolitical realities. This rhetorical posturing masks total structural dependence. Jerusalem controls Jordan’s primary water supply, manages the kingdom’s critical intelligence feeds, and provides the strategic security umbrella that has historically prevented hostile foreign armor from engulfing Amman.
Feckless monarchs who demand massive foreign life-support systems hold no legitimate right to dictate regional boundaries from elite New York podiums while relying entirely on Western taxpayers for survival.
State Department and Western diplomatic corps officials routinely ignore the demographic reality that Jordan remains the actual, de facto Palestinian nation. Citizens of Palestinian origin constitute up to 70% of Jordan’s 11 million residents, including nearly 5 million documented people alongside millions more refugees registered by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. While traditional Hashemite loyalists fiercely command the royal court and security services, an increasingly hostile Palestinian majority dominates Amman, Zarqa, and the entire private economic sector. The Muslim Brotherhood effectively leverages this demographic imbalance to transform Jordan into a critical logistics corridor for Hamas, forcing security forces to dismantle sophisticated explosive and drone cells inside the capital.
History clearly shows the immense danger of continuously indulging these Hashemite delusions. When King Hussein, the grandfather of the current king, battled the Palestine Liberation Organization during the “Black September” crisis in 1970, invading Syrian armored columns threatened to depose the monarchy entirely until Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir mobilized air power to halt the advance decisively. Meir chose to salvage the Hashemite throne rather than allow a terrorist republic to emerge on the East Bank, fully understanding that historic Palestine naturally encompassed modern Jordan. Yet, her contemporary Israeli heirs face groundless accusations of expansionism from the very dynasty she single-handedly rescued.
Ergo, the United States and Israel must dismantle this farce by converting baseline security assistance, intelligence cooperation, and diplomatic support into strict, unyielding behavioral conditions. The U.S. provides $1.7 billion in bilateral aid to Amman, yet American lawmakers rarely demand accountability for the regime’s double game. Washington must immediately condition all future foreign military financing and economic support on the complete closure of Muslim Brotherhood fronts smuggling sophisticated weaponry into Judea and Samaria. Concurrently, American intelligence agencies should also pressure Abdullah II to allow aggressive unilateral collection and disruption against Zarqa terrorist networks, remaining fully prepared to expose palace duplicity to the public if the monarchy maintains its deception.
In parallel, expanding the Abraham Accords framework northward serves the long-term security interests of the U.S. by permanently isolating Hashemite hypocrisy. President Donald Trump’s leadership must guide Jerusalem to negotiate a realistic security architecture with Damascus, offering a tightly monitored administrative sector within the Golan buffer zone to disrupt Islamist pipelines flowing toward the Jordanian border. This operational anchor will seamlessly integrate Ahmad al Sharaa’s new Syrian government into the emerging Abrahamic security framework alongside Morocco, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates, locking Damascus into a multilateral intelligence-sharing matrix backed by America. Crucially, this structural enmeshment neutralizes the danger of a Syrian Trojan-horse peace — a joint, highly audited transit corridor enforces absolute, real-time verification that eliminates double-dealing. Surrounding Jordan with active regional security partners also turns a cold peace into self-destructive isolation, forcing Abdullah II to choose between authentic strategic partnership and an internal collapse like in 1970.
BLOOD ON THE UN PODIUM: IRAN’S PRESIDENT JUST DEFENDED GENOCIDE TO AN EMPTY ROOM
Finally, Israel should pioneer a “hydro-security ledger,” replacing unconditional water grants with a high-tech “smart ledger” that ties real-time volumetric flow directly to Jordan’s active suppression of anti-Israel incitement and border infiltration. This transforms a depleting physical asset into an absolute strategic lever, forcing Amman to choose between hydrological survival and its permissive domestic rhetoric.
Passive appeasement cannot preserve regional balance, nor will inertia protect core American interests in the Middle East. Continuing this failed status quo simply forces the U.S. and Israel to underwrite the next major regional explosion under the fraudulent banner of Abdullah’s performative moralism.
