Late-night liberal Jimmy Kimmel is facing accusations of blatant hypocrisy after mocking newly appointed White House press secretary Katie Zacharia’s intelligence, appearance and qualifications while displaying a photograph of her wearing workout clothes.
The ABC host’s latest attacks on a woman serving in President Donald Trump’s administration have sparked criticism from conservative media watchdogs, who argue that the comedian is getting a pass for the same type of humor that recently landed another comedian in hot water.
Alex Christy, a media analyst with the conservative Media Research Center’s NewsBusters division, called out Kimmel on Tuesday after the television personality used his Monday monologue to ridicule Zacharia, 42.
Kimmel initially pretended Trump had selected a highly educated male candidate before abruptly revealing a photograph of Zacharia taking a gym selfie in December 2024.
‘He’s known for his fair and thoughtful – oh, wait. I’m just kidding. This is the new press secretary,’ Kimmel joked.
‘Former Newsmax commentator Katie Zacharia, seen here thinking,’ he added as the workout photograph appeared onscreen.
The comedian then displayed another image showing Zacharia posing with Trump at a Turning Point USA event.

‘Katie met a number of qualifications for this job, She has blonde hair, she can do a thumbs up and… end of list, really.’
Rather than focus on Zacharia’s professional background or policy positions, Kimmel continued targeting her looks and suggesting she was hired primarily because of her appearance.
‘What else do you need? Where do they all get that same face? Is that makeup or do they have a machine that stamps it on?’
The attacks didn’t stop there.

Kimmel also ridiculed Zacharia’s first White House press briefing, comparing the occasion to kindergarten and taking aim at her loyalty to the president.
‘And in order to keep him awake and interested every six months they bring in a new fawning blonde dolt to add to the rotation.’
Christy argued that the segment exposed a glaring double standard in how liberal commentators respond to jokes about women, depending on their political affiliations.
His criticism came just days after comedian Shane Gillis faced backlash for a joke about women’s gym attire during his appearance on “Saturday Night Live.”
‘I haven’t been to the gym in so long I didn’t know women just dress like wh**es now?’ Gillis joked.
Christy pointed out that Kimmel’s remarks attracted considerably less criticism despite his decision to single out a conservative woman and use her workout photograph to mock her intelligence.
‘Kimmel put up a picture of Zacharia in a sports bra and leggings while taking a selfie at the gym and used it to suggest she’s dumb.’

The conservative analyst also highlighted previous criticism of sexist political commentary from Kimmel’s wife and television producer, Molly McNearney.
McNearney had previously objected to jokes about Hillary Clinton’s clothing, arguing that reducing a female politician to her wardrobe was inappropriate.
Christy suggested those standards appeared to disappear when the target was a Republican woman.
‘Yet, the political movement that considers itself to be the party of women and Kimmel to be a free speech warrior who speaks truth to power cannot be bothered when the woman is on the opposite side of the aisle.’
Jimmy Kimmel also mocked Zacharia’s navy skirt suit, comparing her appearance to that of an airline employee.
‘And really that’s all it takes nowadays. All it takes is that and dressing like you’re about to announce pre-boarding on a Delta Airlines flight.’
The controversy adds to Kimmel’s reputation for using his late-night platform to attack Donald Trump and prominent Republicans.
Christy’s criticism quickly gained traction online, with his X post reportedly attracting nearly 500,000 views within hours.
