Denaturalization Is On The Table For Ilhan Omar, Legal Expert Says

Rep. Ilhan Omar could lose her U.S. citizenship if investigators establish that she obtained it through false information that made her ineligible, legal analyst Jonathan Turley said Wednesday as federal scrutiny of the Minnesota Democrat intensified.

Speaking on Fox News, Turley said claiming she had no role in preparing inaccurate immigration paperwork would not necessarily shield Omar from denaturalization.

“The U.S. government’s position has always been that if you have information there that is untrue, where you would not have been made a citizen, then you can be denaturalized,” Turley said.

His comments came after federal agents searched Omar’s Washington-area home Monday. Investigators also issued subpoenas to relatives, including her sister, Sahra Noor, according to The New York Times.

Authorities are examining the family’s immigration history for potential fraud and false statements. Turley described the possible loss of citizenship as an outcome that would depend on what investigators can establish.

“The immigration laws are very clear. You know, when you’re accused of illegally procuring citizenship or naturalization, it is not a defense that I was innocent in all of this,” he said.

Turley stressed that the government faces a demanding burden of proof.

“Now, the standard is very high. It requires clear evidence, unequivocal evidence,” he said.

JUST IN: Legal expert Jonathan Turley says Ilhan Omar could face DENATURALIZATION if prosecutors prove that she obtained citizenship with FALSE INFORMATION — and now, grand jury subpoenas are hitting her family members

“There’s question as to the stated age of Representative Omar, which allowed her to basically piggyback on the process of her father, instead of having to file a separate effort or filing for naturalization.”

“I think that these family members very likely are related to the immigration side of this.”

The AGE issue is because she reportedly had her birth date changed after-the-fact, suggesting Omar might’ve been TOO OLD to piggyback citizenship off her father

And there you have it: lying to obtain citizenship and trying to COVER IT UP as a CONGRESSWOMAN?!

I think Omar is crooked, and she knows it.

One issue Turley highlighted was Omar’s stated age when she obtained citizenship through her father. He said investigators could examine whether she qualified to become a citizen through that process or should have been required to apply separately.

He also pointed to questions surrounding immigration paperwork submitted by her late father.

Asked about scrutiny of Omar’s finances and subpoenas involving family members, Turley said the immigration inquiry deserved particular attention because it had already resulted in a search of her residence.

“Well, I think that we should focus on the immigration investigation because that’s the one that we know has already reached the point of an actual search of her residence,” he said.

“I think that these family members very likely are related to the immigration side of this.”

Omar has rejected the investigation as politically motivated, accusing President Donald Trump of using federal law enforcement against her.

“I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation,” Omar wrote on X after the search.

“I will not be silenced.”
