Vice President JD Vance made an election-eve dash into upstate New York on Monday with a simple closing argument: put American citizens back in charge of their own country.
Vance rallied in Rome for Trump-endorsed Republican Anthony Constantino, who is fighting to keep New York’s 21st Congressional District in Republican hands. With control of Congress hanging in the balance, the vice president treated the race like exactly what it is: one more place where the America First agenda can either gain a fighter or lose ground to the Democrats.
The heart of Vance’s message was bigger than one candidate. He told voters the MAGA movement is about restoring American sovereignty and returning power to the people.
Here is the moment Vance put that choice in unmistakable terms:
WAER reported that Vance traveled to Rome on Monday morning to headline a rally aimed at boosting Constantino in NY-21 and Republican Kailee Buller in the neighboring 22nd District. The event put a national spotlight on two upstate contests just one day before voters head to the polls.
Constantino is running against Democrat Blake Gendebien for the seat being vacated by Rep. Elise Stefanik, while Buller is challenging Democrat John Mannion. Vance’s stop gave both Republican candidates a powerful final push as they worked to turn out voters across central and northern New York.
That is why Vance’s appearance mattered. This was not a ceremonial visit to a safe seat or a sleepy last stop on the calendar.
The vice president went straight into a competitive region and made the case that Republican control of Congress is essential if voters want President Trump’s agenda to keep moving instead of being buried under investigations, obstruction and another round of Democrat chaos.
Vance also brought the argument back to the kitchen table. Politics, he said, should be measured by whether American families can build a decent life and whether their children still have a real shot at the American Dream.
His promise to New York families was direct:
The Times Union reported that Constantino’s contest with Gendebien had become unexpectedly close in a district Republicans once viewed as reliably safe. The newspaper said the rally was first expected farther north before being moved to Rome in Oneida County, giving Vance a chance to speak to voters in a more central part of the sprawling district.
Constantino entered the race as a businessman and political outsider, then won the Republican nomination with support from President Trump and Stefanik. That combination has made NY-21 a clear test of whether voters want an unapologetic MAGA representative or a Democrat who would help hand control of the House to the left.
The stakes are especially sharp along the northern border. Communities across upstate New York have watched the consequences of weak enforcement, fentanyl trafficking and illegal crossings land far from the television studios that spent years pretending the border crisis was somebody else’s problem.
Vance told the crowd that the Trump administration had finally put a stop to the open-border disaster Democrats allowed to spread into the North Country:
That is the closing contrast. Constantino is asking voters to send a pro-Trump businessman to Washington to defend the border, American workers, lower taxes and the Second Amendment. Democrats are asking those same voters to give their party another vote for the agenda that created the mess in the first place.
Vance showed up because no seat can be taken for granted and no American community should be written off. If Republicans in upstate New York turn out on Tuesday, they can give President Trump another ally in Congress and deliver a blunt answer to the political class: this country still belongs to its citizens.
