Jim Antle, executive editor of the Washington Examiner magazine, brings to life its pages in the show Inside Scoop. Each episode features exclusive insight from the article authors and expert analysis.
Is California’s political future a warning sign for the rest of America, or a model to follow? Antle breaks down the current state of California politics and how even though Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is battling the homelessness crisis, crime, wildfire mismanagement, and the broader effects of progressive policies across the state, she is still in the lead for reelection.
“Of course, in California, the problem isn’t just Los Angeles or one particular mayor,” Antle says. “The entire state has become a model for progressive dysfunction. However, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is term-limited out of office, is a likely presidential candidate for the Democratic nomination in 2028.”
Antle explains that candidates, like Spencer Pratt, running on change seem to struggle, and California Democrats have maintained their stranglehold on state government.
“There is still going to be a Republican candidate, Steve Hilton, who is on the November ballot for governor, but in many other cases the Democratic incumbents have won, or they’re facing uber progressive, borderline socialist opponents who will likely take the same policies and run them into overdrive.”
Antle speaks with Editorial Director Hugo Gurdon, who argues America is a credal nation founded on inalienable rights and shared principles rather than blood and soil, and that those who reject those core values can fairly be called “un-American.”
“There are certain values that are American,” Gurdon says. “I wanted to make the point … the socialists are antithetical to what is America and Americanism.”
Gurdon warns that today’s socialists aren’t merely pushing policy tweaks. They openly advocate remaking the Constitution itself, from abolishing the Senate and weakening the presidency to undermining the Supreme Court’s role in interpreting the law. Socialists’ growing electoral success, Gurdon suggests, poses a direct challenge to the American creed and the institutions that embody it.
“These people do not like America,” Gurdon says. “In fact, the connecting tissue between them all is essentially a detestation of America as the leading Western nation, and beyond that, a detestation of Western nations. They don’t like this country. They don’t like Western civilization, and they’re doing their utmost to undermine it.”

Even though the Supreme Court has upheld laws that protect females in sports, it does not currently protect females in states that do not. Perhaps an even more probing question for the court to decide: Do females have a right to know if they’re facing a male in a sport?
