Dr. Idris V.R. Evans, a father and renowned pediatric doctor who cared for critically-ill children, was stabbed to death in his own bed just after midnight early Thursday morning.
He and his wife were attacked by a deranged burglar with a kitchen knife as they slept.
They woke up in the middle of the attack, and Evans’ wife was able to call out to their children to escape the home and run to a neighbor’s. Thankfully, they did.
But, tragically, Evans died on the scene. And, his wife is still in critical condition in the hospital.

Dr. Idris Evans, a pediatric critical care doctor at UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, was asleep at home with his wife, when a near-naked intruder broke in.
32 year-old Elijah Hemingway stabbed Evans and his wife multiple times, in a “very violent scene.”
Evans’ critically injured wife rushed to save their children, ages 8 and 12, as their father lay dying.
During the attack, Evans called out the intruder by name “Elijah,” as if he knew who he was…
The assailant also made multiple references to God or “being God” during the attack, reportedly.
The crime is still being investigated. The kids are (physically) OK, while their mother remains hospitalized.
The suspect, 32-year-old Elijah Hemingway, is a violent, mentally-ill career criminal.
Hemingway was wearing only his underwear when he murdered Evans and attacked his wife.
Reportedly, this lunatic also referred to himself as “being God” as he carried out the stabbing.
The New York Post reported further:
Hemingway claimed to have been invited to the home — where the doctor’s two children were sleeping — but officials found no evidence to back his story, the outlet reported.
When pressed by cops, Hemingway couldn’t explain how he knew the doctor, Fox News reported.
“We do not know if there was any preexisting relationship, though the female victim did not know this male, we are trying to determine if the two males knew each other, if at all,” said Assistant Superintendent of the Allegheny County Police Department Vic Joseph.
“The wife believes she heard her husband say a name — ‘Elijah,’ but the wife is also unclear if the actor identified himself by name, so we’re still investigating that.”
The knife-wielding assailant stormed into the home just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday, cops said.
Hemingway appeared “psychotic” and was rambling about God and “being God” when he busted into the couple’s room — with their kids sleeping in another room nearby, according to the complaint.
Evans and his wife desperately tried “fighting back the best of their ability” and both suffered extensive defensive wounds on their hands, Joseph said.
The couple was rushed to a local hospital, where Evans was pronounced dead and his wife was listed in critical condition.
The children, ages 8 and 12, ran to a neighbor’s home after their mom yelled for them to flee.
Hemingway was hunted down by a police K9 to a neighboring home where he was found with lacerations on his hands and transported to hospital, officials said.
He was slapped with a slew of charges, including criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary and criminal trespass, according to officials.
The most infuriating part of this horrific tragedy is how preventable it was.
Elijah Hemingway should have been locked up a long time ago.
Instead, a judge let this violent, repeat offender out on non-monetary bail for separate burglary charges shortly before he broke in to Evans’ home and carried out the attack.

It’s incredibly sad and frustrating how common cases like this have become around the nation.
The rogue judicial system, which prioritizes nutcases who should be institutionalized, has blood on its hands.

THIS is the part that should make people furious.
Dr. Idris Evans dedicated his career to saving critically ill children.
Now he is dead, his wife is critically injured, and their two children have been left traumatized after an attack inside the place they should have been safest—their own home.
Police arrested 32-year-old Elijah Hemingway and charged him with criminal homicide, attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault and other offenses.
But here’s the part I cannot get past:
Hemingway was reportedly already OUT on non-monetary bail in an unrelated burglary case.
How many times are families supposed to pay the price when someone accused of a crime is released back onto the streets?
Gina Evans was stabbed and STILL managed to get her 8- and 12-year-old children out of that house alive.
Those children escaped physically unharmed—but they lost their father and watched their mother fight for her life.
Dr. Evans spent his life trying to save other people’s children.
Who was protecting his?
Pray for Gina and those babies.
