On Saturday, a gunman opened fire at the historic Main Market Square in Krakow, Poland.
At least six people were killed, and over a dozen more were injured.

Małopolska Police and MPK S.A. confirmed a Polish gunman opened fire at a popular tourist destination in Kraków on Saturday, killing six people and wounding at least fifteen more.
Of the six dead, four are women and two are men, according to Małopolska Police.
Shooting from a moving vehicle, the gunman allegedly targeted people at random, injuring civilians as well as police during the attack on Kraków’s bustling Main Square.
“Six people were killed and fifteen were injured in the incident in the Main Market Square, the Małopolska Provincial Office reported. The perpetrator of the attack was shot and detained by police officers. Rescue services are still working at the scene,” MPK S.A., the city’s municipal public transport company, wrote in a statement shared to X.
The suspect, identified as a 25-year-old Polish man, drove to multiple spots in the square and shot people at random.

Ultimately, the gunman was shot and wounded by a police officer, who was seriously hurt during the incident.
The suspect is now in custody, and the police officer who took him down is in the hospital.

Authorities believe that the gunman was motivated by far-right ideologies.
The location where he carried out the shooting is a popular tourist spot, and some of the victims were not Polish citizens.

The attack, which Poland’s defense minister described as an “act of terror,” happened in Main Square, which is in the heart of Krakow’s Old Town and is a major tourist hub in the country’s second-largest city.
The 25-year-old attacker drove to multiple spots in the square and opened fire at each stop with an automatic weapon, authorities said. Although they didn’t release his name, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said the man holds “very radical” and “ultranationalistic” views.
“Everything indicates that he was fascinated by far-right ideologies,” Kierwiński said at a news conference.
Hours after the attack, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said authorities found the bodies of three of the suspect’s close family members — two women and a man — inside of his home in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, a city about 150 kilometers (93 miles) northeast of Krakow.
“We have the next acts of this tragedy,” Tusk told reporters.
Four women and two men were killed in the Krakow attack. At least three of the women were Polish, and one of the dead was a U.K. citizen, authorities said. Police were still trying to identify the other two people who were killed.
A total of 13 people were hospitalized in serious condition, authorities said, though that figure may include the gunman, who underwent surgery after the attack.
It’s unclear how many of the injured were shot. Two of them were treated and released within hours of the mass shooting. Two police officers were seriously injured, Kierwiński said. Five non-Poles were also injured, police commander Marek Boroń said.
At this time, authorities have not released the gunman’s identity.
