The NYPD was forced to shut down parts of Midtown Manhattan after reports of a “suspicious package” found near President Trump’s motorcade at the UN. The bomb squad later deemed the package to be “safe”, but questions surrounding the incident still remain, as the threat was serious enough to warrant a bomb squad investigation and a shutdown of E 43rd St from Lexington to 3rd Avenue.

Thankfully, about 20 minutes later, the threat was cleared:
“UPDATE: The package has been cleared and deemed to not be suspicious. 43rd Street between 3rd Avenue and Lexington Avenue remains closed,” NYPD News posted on X.

The discovery initially prompted police to close 42nd through 44th streets between Second and Lexington avenues and urge people to avoid the area.
Popular X news influencer Nick Sortor reported that President Donald Trump had safely departed the United Nations by motorcade as news of the police response emerged.

The NYPD update did not identify the package’s contents or explain what initially raised concerns. It also did not address whether Trump’s departure was connected to the incident.
