Becerra will be Newsom, but worse for California

How will Xavier Becerra differ from Gavin Newsom as governor of California? According to Becerra, he will green-light even worse policies while speaking Spanish.

Becerra was asked a series of questions by reporter Ashley Zavala about what his administration would look like. His answers mixed support for the status quo of California’s incompetent governance with vague promises to do things differently, without explaining how. Becerra said he supports both a gas tax and a mileage tax for California drivers and will continue to support the money pit that is the high-speed rail project.

HERE ARE THE STATES WITH VOTER ID ON THE BALLOT THIS NOVEMBER

The biggest question voters should have, of course, is what Becerra would do differently from Newsom as the top Democrat in the Democrat-dominated state. According to Zavala, “When asked about the biggest difference between him and California’s current Democratic Gov. Newsom, Becerra first replied in Spanish, noting, his fluency in Spanish is one of the various ways he would be different.”

It will truly be a new era of governance in California.

Becerra’s point was that his parents are immigrants, signaling to voters that he will fight tooth and nail to protect illegal immigration into the U.S. Ironically, this doesn’t differentiate him at all from Newsom, who has done exactly the same over the past eight years.

So how would Becerra truly be different from Newsom? According to Zavala, Becerra said that “he has already told lawmakers he intends to go to them early with proposals.”

For those wondering, the uber-progressive Newsom has actually been one of the more moderate Democrats in the California Democratic Party’s power structure. Among the bills passed by the Democratic legislature that Newsom has vetoed are a bill that would require judges to reward parents in custody cases if they support transitioning their child, a bill that would expand the state’s unfunded pension liabilities, and a bill that would ban former ICE agents from serving in local law enforcement agencies.

CALIFORNIA DEMOCRATS STILL BUTTING HEADS OVER DESTRUCTIVE WEALTH TAX

Newsom has presided over the progressive decay of California, and yet he has actually prevented things from being even worse. Becerra seems more willing to let legislative Democrats accelerate the state’s decline.

Californians are paying for the decisions made by Democrats under Newsom through the state’s ongoing budget crisis, increasingly unaffordable living costs and taxes, and a failing education system. Becerra wants to pour more fuel on the fire, embracing the very progressive dogma that has made the state worse. But hey, at least he speaks Spanish.
