The Iran-backed Houthis’s latest attack against Saudi Arabia left an American citizen dead and over 300 people injured on Saturday.
“The United States strongly condemns the recent attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by the terrorist Houthis,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Saturday night, “including today’s strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh that took numerous innocent lives, including an American citizen. These reprehensible attacks demonstrate a blatant disregard for innocent civilian life. They must stop now. We stand with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people and extend our condolences to the victims and their families.”
At least a dozen people were killed after missiles struck two domestic flight terminals at the airport in the nation’s capital, civil aviation authorities said. The attack is the largest wagered against a Gulf nation since the broader conflict with Iran broke out in February, according to the Associated Press, and may trigger the United States’s involvement in the regional conflict.
When asked whether the U.S. might join Saudi strikes against the terrorist organization, President Donald Trump said, “We may.”
“We’re going to look at it,” he said. “We just found out about the recent attack. So we’ll make a decision. We move very quickly.”

Trump later told reporters Saturday night that he would speak with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman about the attack, while adding that the U.S. is “in communication” with the Houthis. The strikes left four Saudi nationals and a Palestinian dead, as well as citizens of Bangladesh, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Sudan. Major General Turki Al-Maki said the strikes amounted to a war crime and that the kingdom’s military would respond.
Houthi forces also killed two people in an attack on Abha International Airport on Wednesday.
