For decades, thousands of vulnerable girls across Britain have been groomed, raped, trafficked and abused. But beneath the scandal lies a question much of the establishment has been unwilling to confront: What role does Islamic belief play in the grooming-gang phenomenon?
Dr. Mark Durie has spent years studying Islam, Sharia and the treatment of non-Muslims under Islamic law. His warning goes far beyond criminal gangs. “What will the character of Britain be? Will it be a Sharia state in 100 years’ time?”
In this explosive conversation, Elizabeth Farah and Durie examine the religious and ideological framework Durie argues cannot be separated from the crimes: Muslim supremacy, contempt for the kafir, loyalty and disavowal, male guardianship, sexual slavery, jihad and the historic treatment of conquered non-Muslims.
Durie walks through eight principles he believes help explain how perpetrators could rationalize the systematic abuse of non-Muslim girls. He describes victims treated as slaves, including one girl allegedly branded by her abuser to signify ownership, and examines the Islamic precedents for taking women captive in war and using them sexually.
But the most disturbing question may be what happened around the perpetrators. Why were authorities so reluctant to act? Farah and Durie examine political correctness, multiculturalism, institutional fear and the possibility that communal and religious loyalties helped create an environment in which victims were ignored while abusers escaped scrutiny.
And Durie issues an important warning of his own: this cannot become an excuse to hate Muslims. Many Muslims reject extremism, want peaceful lives and are themselves wrestling with the implications of Islamic teaching.
The grooming-gang scandal is horrifying enough on its own. Durie argues that what it reveals about Britain’s future may be even bigger.
