Last month, 12-year-old Jacob Freytes was tragically killed in the Bronx by a career criminal.

The young boy rode his bike to a local bodega to buy a ball. While there, a gunfight broke out, and Freytes was fatally struck by a stray bullet.

45-year-old William Ferrer, who has a lengthy criminal history, was arrested in connection with the shooting. He is facing second-degree murder charges, among others.

Today, Freytes’ parents were among the attendees at President Trump’s rally in New York.

When President Trump saw the deceased young boy’s mom shedding tears in the middle of his speech, he paused the rally and walked off the stage to embrace her.

Watch the incredibly bittersweet moment here:

Losing a child in such a horrific way is every parent’s nightmare.

As a parent himself, it’s obvious how much President Trump sympathizes with this family’s loss.

Moments like these show President Trump’s genuine, caring side. He truly has a heart of gold.

Before pausing the rally and leaving the stage, President Trump was in the middle of discussing Jacob Freytes’ heartbreaking story.

Fox News provided some additional context:

Before leaving the stage to meet his parents, Trump mentioned Freytes while talking about his administration’s effort to lower crime.

“Two weeks ago, a 12-year-old boy named Jacob Freytes — You read about this one? — was tragically shot and killed by a stray bullet fired by a repeat offender in a gun battle.”

He added: “Jacob was the son of a loving mom and a retired New York City police detective, and they are incredible people, and I think I heard that they may be with us today. Are you with us?”

He then left the stage and hugged Freytes’ teary-eyed mom, Migdalia Martinez, and his father, retired NYPD Sgt. Jesus Freytes, saying a few private words to both of them.

“Incredible. Horrible story. What a horrible thing,” he said when he returned to the stage. “But we’re going after them. These are bad, sick people.”

Jacob Freytes’ death has inspired Republicans in New York to introduce “Jacob’s Law,” which would impose more severe punishments on criminals whose reckless actions kill a child.

The New York Post shared a statement from Jacob’s mother, who spoke out after attending the Trump rally today:

Martinez told The Post that the tender moment made her feel that the country is “heading in the right direction.”

“It feels good to know that he cares,” the grieving mom said “I need America to be safe again. I already lost one son. If it’s not safe, I can’t imagine what’s going to happen to the rest of my children or all of our children.”

Martinez said she hopes for a future bill named after her son that would put criminals convicted of recklessly or intentionally killing children behind bars for life without the possibility of parole.

“My son will never be able to enjoy his life. Why should he?” Martinis said of career criminal William Ferrer, 45, who police said killed Freytes after opening fire during a fight in the South Bronx.

Ferrer has a lengthy rap sheet dating as far back as 1999, with half a dozen previous arrests, including drug possession in 2013, marijuana possession in 2009, drunk-driving in 2009, and possession of stolen property in The Bronx in 2004, according to police sources.

Please keep Sgt. Jesus Freytes and Migdalia Martinez in your prayers in their time of grief.
