President Trump took time out of his busy Monday schedule to honor a young man who truly represents the best of America.
Last month, a viral video captured 16-year-old lifeguard Ryder Williams saving a 10-year-old boy from treacherous waves in Santa Cruz, CA.
If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to watch the original video of the heroic rescue here:
That clip eventually reached President Trump, who immediately invited the young hero to meet him.
Today, President Trump welcomed both Ryder Williams and the boy he saved, Nathaniel Rai, to the White House.
Both of the young men’s families were also there.
Watch the touching moment President Trump sat down with them all in the Oval Office here:

What an incredible role model for young men.
It’s great to see The White House highlight positive stories like this.

Ryder Williams has a hero’s heart.
While answering questions from the press, the 16-year-old revealed that his dream is to become a firefighter, and President Trump promised to throw in his recommendation!
Watch here:
WOW! President Trump announces in the Oval Office he will give a PERSONAL recommendation for 16-year-old hero lifeguard Ryder Williams to become a FIREFIGHTER, which is his dream job
Williams is right next to him as he says it.
Incredible!
WILLIAMS: “I want to be a firefighter in the future. Hopefully go through paramedic school.”
TRUMP: “He’s off to a good start — we’ll give him a recommendation! You may have some GOOD recommendations!”
What this young man did is very impressive.
Even many adults would have had a hard time pulling off his brave feat and saving Nathaniel’s life.
ABC News detailed his heroic act further:
Williams saved Nathaniel Rai from the surf at Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz, California on Saturday, July 25.
Williams saw the child lose his footing in ankle-deep water about 20 yards from the tower he was assigned to, he said in a statement shared on Instagram by California State Parks.
“I radioed it in, threw my radio and sunglasses at the base of my tower as I ran toward the kid,” Williams said in the statement.
“That’s just a part of our daily task to do,” Williams said in an Instagram video posted by the state parks account. “We keep the public safe, that’s the reason we’re on the beach.”
Williams made other rescues that day, he said in the video.
“We’re going to bring this heroic young man, and his family, into the White House with, perhaps, the boy he saved, to give him a High Civilian Honor,” Trump posted on Truth Social on Tuesday, July 28, calling Williams “very brave” in the post.
There was a high surf advisory in place that day, as the swell consistently reached 4- to 6-inch sets and waves occasionally rose to 10 inches, according to California State Parks.
The shoreline and break at Seabright Beach are relatively steep, with heavy surf that breaks close to shore, the state parks said.
“I cannot express sufficient gratitude,” Sumit Rai, the child’s father, said in an interview with ABC News’ San Francisco station KGO. “There’s nothing more valuable to me than my children, and so to save one of them and their lives, especially at such a young tender age, you know, which is such a premature way to lose someone. I can’t thank them enough.”
Nathaniel Rai lost consciousness in the incident, his father told KGO, adding that if it had been another two or three seconds, he does not think his son would have made it.
It’s great to see Ryder getting the recognition he deserves.
Even more heartwarming is the fact that tomorrow is Nathaniel’s birthday.
Watch what Nathaniel’s dad had to tell President Trump here:

Nathaniel might not have made it to eleven if it weren’t for Ryder Williams saving his life.
But, now, there he is in the Oval Office with the greatest president of our generation and the teenage hero who saved his life!
In a humorous moment from the Oval Office meeting, President Trump asked Nathaniel for his opinion when a fake news CNN reporter started asking off-topic questions.
You have to see this for yourself:
President Trump asks the 10-year-old who was saved by lifeguard Ryder Williams in California if he thinks a shouting CNN reporter is being disrespectful.
“Quiet, quiet, quiet. You're very disrespectful in front of this young man. Okay? Don't you find her disrespectful? He…

Yep — this kid’s eleventh birthday is definitely going to be the most memorable of his lifetime!
CBS News has more on the Oval Office meeting between President Trump, Ryder, and Nathaniel:
“We’re honored to have all of you. And again, what you did was incredible,” Mr. Trump said to the young lifeguard. “And everybody saw it. And you’d watch it over and over. I know when I first saw it, I said, ‘Roll that back, I want to see that again. Is that really happening?'”
Nathaniel’s father, Sumit Rai, was also in the Oval Office and thanked Ryder, saying he’s “beyond grateful” for his son’s rescue. Rai said he is grateful the family will get to celebrate his son’s 11th birthday on Tuesday. Rai told “CBS Mornings” earlier this month his son was “a second or two away from dying” when Williams arrived.
“Maybe lifeguards don’t get the credit they deserve,” Mr. Trump said.
