The 81st United Nations General Assembly begins on Tuesday, an occasion when the world’s heads of state and top officials can plead their case before the world.
The president of the U.N. General Assembly, Khalilur Rahman, will preside over this year’s session, which has the theme “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.”
Speeches will be held from Tuesday until Saturday, with a break on Sunday, and the final day on Monday.
Tuesday, Sept. 22
Tuesday will open strongly, with planned speeches from the leaders or top officials from the United States, Turkey, Qatar, Finland, France, and the United Kingdom.
Wednesday, Sept. 23
Wednesday will feature speeches from the leaders or top officials of Syria, Iran, Argentina, Estonia, Ukraine, Poland, Venezuela, and Spain. This will be the first General Assembly after the ousting of former Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro and his replacement by the pro-U.S. President Delcy Rodriguez.
Thursday, Sept. 24
Thursday’s schedule is still being finalized, but it is expected to feature speeches from the leaders or top officials of the Palestinian Authority, Hungary, and Israel.
Friday, Sept. 25
Friday’s schedule is still being finalized, but it is expected to feature speeches by leaders or top officials from Iraq, Lebanon, and Ethiopia, all of whom are dealing with an ongoing or imminent military conflict.
Saturday, Sept. 26
Saturday’s schedule is still being finalized, but it is expected to feature speeches from the leaders or top officials from China, the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Russia, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, and Canada.
Monday, Sept. 28
The leader or top official from Denmark will be speaking on Monday.
