The Lindsay Clancy trial is officially over.

This morning, the judge overseeing the trial declared a mistrial.

However, in a surprising move, he granted a brief stay so that Clancy’s attorney Kevin Reddington could file a last-minute emergency appeal.

We covered that development in detail here:

Now, the Massachusetts Supreme Court has effectively told Clancy’s defense to shove it!

The appeal has been denied.

CBS News reported:

Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Associate Justice Dalila Argaez Wendlandt held a brief hearing Friday afternoon about the mistrial delcaration and the lone holdout juror at the center of the Lindsay Clancy trial.

She denied the defense’s request.

Plymouth Superior Court Judge William Sullivan then brought the jury into the courtoom and officially declared a mistrial in front of them, formally ending the trial.

Sullivan said a status hearing on the case will be held Sept. 29 at 9 a.m.

The mistrial is now formally in effect.

This isn’t a terrible outcome.

It’s certainly preferred to letting a mother who methodically killed her three young children off the hook!

As we have previously reported, one lone juror refused to join the eleven others in voting not guilty.

Lindsay Clancy’s attorney tried to get this juror removed, but was ultimately unsuccessful.

Thankfully, this hero didn’t give in to the pressure and held out until the end — but, the battle isn’t over yet.

Now, Lindsay Clancy will get a new trial, from scratch, with a whole new jury who hopefully can reach a swift verdict.

It’s unclear when the new trial will begin, but the next court hearing will be on September 29th.

NBC News reported on the judge’s final words to the jury and the counsel:

The judge officially declared a mistrial Friday afternoon after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict.

He told the jury that he understands how hard they’ve worked on the case and thanked them for their dedication.

“You knew how difficult the case was going to be to listen to, facts-wise, but still you braced for that duty,” he said.

“And I just kind of wanted to also let you know I watched every day, day after day, week after week, all of you performing that duty that you braced for, and I just kind of wanted to let you know I understood how hard everybody worked in this case,” Sullivan said.

After dismissing the jurors, Sullivan acknowledged the work of the attorneys who have argued this case.

“I wanted to compliment all three counsel,” Sullivan said. “A trial like this is so hard, so difficult, and so I just kind of wanted to to thank the three of you for your efforts in regards to this.”

Reddington was quick to assert he wants to get back into the courtroom as soon as possible to argue next steps, but Sullivan and prosecutors pushed it back to Sept. 29.
