Nearly a week after surviving her execution, convicted murderer Christa Pike is now reportedly conscious and speaking in the hospital.

As you probably already know, Pike did not die despite being given two doses of the lethal injection drug pentobarbital.

Emergency responders rushed her to the hospital, where she has been in critical condition on a ventilator — up until today.

Now, it appears she is beginning to recover.

Take a look at the latest development:

At the age of 18, Pike brutally tortured another teenage girl to death.

She has been on death row since 1996.

Her execution was supposed to be the first time Tennessee has executed a female inmate in modern history, and it’s still unclear exactly what went wrong.

The whole incident is under investigation.

ABC News shared a statement from Pike’s lawyers on her condition:

“Her recovery is medically unprecedented. Her prognosis remains unclear but, at a minimum, we expect a long recovery,” her attorneys — Randy Spivey and Kelly Gleason from the Tennessee Office of the Post Conviction Defender and Stephen Ferrell and Luke Ihnen from Federal Defender Services of Eastern Tennessee — said in a statement.

Pike, 50, continues to receive medical care after she survived being administered two lethal doses of pentobarbital and was hospitalized following the failed Sept. 30 execution in Nashville, her attorneys said. She has “severe damage” to her arms and remains handcuffed to her bed, her attorneys said.

At this time, we do not know what the legal process going forward will look like, or if Pike will be executed again.

Her attorneys are requesting that Pike be allowed to live out the rest of her days in prison with a life sentence.

AP News has more:

A spokesperson for the Tennessee Department of Correction said she could provide no information other than that Pike remained hospitalized Tuesday.

Pike’s attorneys are set to go to court Wednesday as they seek to learn more about what happened in the failed lethal injection.

The attorneys are seeking a court order requiring the Tennessee Department of Correction to preserve evidence, including drug lot numbers, records and other information from the Sept. 30 attempted execution. Chancery Court Judge I’Ashea Myles scheduled a Wednesday morning status conference in the case.

Pike’s attorneys said in their Tuesday statement that they continue to ask Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee to commute Pike’s sentence to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

“Christa is a survivor and will take recovery one day at a time,” her attorneys said.

I don’t know about you, but it’s kind of bizarre to me that we are spending so many resources keeping a woman alive who was scheduled to die…

Folks on X have some comments:

@FoxNews Send her back to the death chamber and finish the task.

@FoxNews So now we try again, right? Seems a little morbid to wait till they are conscious, but so long as they get what they deserve then I’d say it’s fine.

@FoxNews Maybe we can get a two-for-one discount at Nidal Hassan’s firing squad.
