Podcaster Tucker Carlson admitted again to being “wrong on Trump” during an interview with sports and political commentator Stephen A. Smith, where Carlson explained his departure from the Republican Party.
Smith asked Carlson for clarity regarding his shifting views on the Trump administration.
“Why should listeners see this latest break as principle rather than another pivot on your part?” Smith said on his show, Straight Shooter with Stephen A. Smith, on Wednesday.
“Well, I’ve had many, many pivots, and I’ve already explained two of them. I was wrong,” Carlson said. “Because I’m wrong a lot. You know, I guess, I mean I flatter myself and say I’m not wrong a lot, but I certainly am wrong sometimes and wrong on big things, I was wrong on Trump.”
“People can judge whether I’m sincere or not; I don’t really know what I’m getting out of this. Actually, I’ve gotten really nothing out of any of it.”
In recent years, Carlson has become more critical of the Israeli government and U.S. support for Israel amid the war in Iran. Carlson argued that the U.S. conflict with Iran has been going on for a long time, but that President Donald Trump took it “quantum levels crazier and more destructive to the U.S., which is this war.”
Carlson said he talked to people who work at the White House and the Pentagon about how to get out of the war, and said, “They have no idea.”
“I’m really worried about it. I know I’m hated and called a Nazi for being against it, but it’s bad enough that it’s worth it to say it,” Carlson said.
Carlson “saw a lot of stuff that was like so bad for this country.”
Carlson said he used to view Trump as an outsider who “wasn’t a Republican. He was a challenge to the Republicans.”
He said all that changed after Trump was almost fatally shot during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in 2024.
“He [Trump] changed. Like 180 degrees,” Carlson said.
Carlson said he pushed the FBI for more information on the shooting and to release footage, but that the investigation was shut down by Trump.
“I’m pretty sure you’re doing something wrong then, if you’re attacking me for asking,” Carlson said.
“I don’t know if it’s that simple,” Carlson added, but maintained that he believed something was going on behind the scenes.
In April, Carlson made similar statements, saying he was “sorry for misleading people” about Trump.

Carlson said he was “implicated in this for sure,” regarding his role supporting the president during the 2024 election.
He also said the president showed signs of “low character.”
