President Donald Trump said on Friday his administration will send one-time checks of $90 to certain Medicare recipients as he campaigns across Republican-leaning areas about a month before the 2026 midterm elections.

“I am pleased to announce that my Administration will, immediately, begin sending ‘Checks’ of nearly $100 to over 20 MILLION wonderful Seniors to help pay for their Medicare Part B premiums, which we have already reduced by significant amounts,” he said. “This money will come from the Medicare Improvement Fund, a pointless ‘Slush Fund’ that has only been used by Dumocrats in Congress to pay for the Waste, Fraud, and Abuse for their Special Interest friends, and drive up Healthcare costs.” The Medicare Improvement Fund was created in 2008 to make general improvements to the program, but has never been used.

Trump campaigned in Texas on Thursday and Alabama on Friday to shore up support from the Republican base as the GOP looks to retain control of Congress in November despite Trump’s low approval rating. Friday night’s announcement also comes nearly one month after Trump said at a Republican National Committee event in Dallas that his administration would send every American adult a $5,000 check if the GOP wins in November.

Trump linked his administration’s most-favored-nation pricing policy to “substantially LOWER costs” and said, “Because I delivered on this very important policy issue for the American people, they can rest assured the highly popular $5,000 Trump Dividend will be distributed to every U.S. Citizen if, and when, the Republicans win the Midterm Elections!”

He also noted his long-held preference not to cut Medicare or Social Security benefits in the announcement, saying, “I pledged to protect and preserve Medicare and Social Security” since former President Joe Biden left it on the verge of “RUIN.” Trump notably campaigned on preserving Medicare and Social Security ahead of the 2016 presidential election, while other Republican candidates pledged to slash federal spending.

FIRST ROUND OF OCTOBER SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENTS GOES OUT IN 11 DAYS

“Most eligible seniors will receive the payment in the form of a direct deposit of $90 in early October,” the White House detailed in a separate announcement. “Those without direct deposit will receive a check, also sent in early October, to the mailing address that they have registered with Medicare. Most Medicare Part B enrollees are eligible for the payments. Those whose premiums are already paid by Medicaid or who pay an Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount do not qualify.”

Seniors who wish to check their eligibility for payments can call 1-800-633-4227. It is unclear when the payments may arrive in early October.
