Considering the high stakes of the upcoming midterm elections, the Republican National Committee has been planning its first-ever convention for a non-presidential election year.

The event is being dubbed “Trump-a-Palooza’ and will take place in Dallas on Sept. 9 and 10.

According to The Hill:

The Republican National Committee’s (RNC) first-of-its-kind midterm convention has been cloaked in mystery until a few weeks ago. Details are finally emerging about what’s expected to be a two-day pep rally to bolster hype and encourage Republicans to get out the vote in November amid President Trump’s shrinking approval rate.

But some Republicans are quietly frustrated that the event came together so fast and at such a high price tag for lawmakers: House members are reportedly expected to contribute $25,000 to attend.

Later in the same article:

But Texas Republican consultant Brendan Steinhauser contended that “it’s a net positive” for the GOP in Texas and beyond.

“It’s two days. It’s not two weeks … so you’re not really taking away from anything else,” he said. “Texas is indeed competitive, and this makes all the sense in the world to me,” he said. “As long as it’s a net positive financially, and they make use of the time and deliver a message, then I think it’s a good thing.”

Texas Republican strategist Vinny Minchillo argued that “people are digging really hard to find problems with the event,” which he sees as a good opportunity to rev up the the GOP base in Texas as they look toward a Senate race that’s “much tighter than anybody would really like on the Republican side.”

News of the event has sparked social media discussion for months:

The Trump-a-palooza will have to be a multi-day event to have time to highlight all the incredible things President Trump has accomplished

@SenateGOP Trump had done all the work so far. Maybe you all could do something useful for the country before your next vacation?

CBS News added these details in a report last month:

Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters said the GOP’s first-ever Midterm Convention, being held in Dallas, will feature President Trump’s accomplishments and boost their candidates for the all-important November election.

In an interview with CBS News Texas on Wednesday morning, Gruters said, “We are so excited. It’s going to be a Trumpapalooza. We’re going to highlight all these amazing things that the President is doing, that the President is working on, all these ideas, policies, and people that are helping return America to greatness, and we’re going to do it right there in Texas to help our candidates in the midterms moving forward.”

The event will take place on Sept. 9 -10 at the American Airlines Center, where President Trump spoke during his first campaign 10 years ago.

Gruters said the midterm convention was President Trump’s idea.

Mr. Trump announced it on his Truth Social account, saying, “It will be fantastic! It has never been done before and will be a truly Historic Event.”

When asked why the event was being held in Texas, and specifically Dallas, Gruters said, “Dallas, Texas, is one of the President’s favorite cities. It’s right in the middle of everything, a lot of action going on, and a lot of important races going on in Texas.”
