The DSA just declared war on the Constitution

The far-Left group Democratic Socialists of America is having a moment. With rising DSA stars heading to Congress and its longtime ally Zohran Mamdani now New York City mayor, the fringe activists have never been closer to the mainstream. So, they’re tactically retreating from some of their most extreme ideas and trying to present themselves more palatably.

Just kidding. That’s what any organization with a semblance of practicality or self-awareness would do. So, naturally, the DSA is doing the opposite.

It just released a new platform, “Workers Deserve More,” that is exponentially more radical, more explicitly anti-American, and more comically utopian than all its past platforms combined — and that’s saying something.

This is on display from its very first plank, which promises Americans that under their agenda, you “don’t really have bills anymore.” It suggests that mortgages, health insurance copays, retirement funds, food, energy, and medicine, will all be “free,” meaning no one will need to work to cover their own needs. Somehow, we are implicitly assured that there will be infinite money to fund this for everyone, and that society will be even more productive, despite the option to simply not work and have all your needs met anyway.

To its credit, the DSA is not shy about the fact that its agenda is completely, utterly inconsistent with the United States as we know it. That’s why they explicitly propose things, like abolishing the Senate, that literally cannot be changed under our Constitution even via amendment, and openly suggest they intend to “draft a new Constitution.”

While they’re at it, they throw in guarantees of taxpayer-funded abortion with no limits and taxpayer-funded “gender-affirming care” even for minors. Oh, and they promise to pay out reparations for slavery, drawing further from their imaginary money tree.

But if their seriousness was somehow still up for debate after all this, the national security portion of their platform is so comically absurd that it surely ends that conversation. They call for:

  • Defunding the Department of War (and do not mention any kind of alternative or replacement military).
  • Ending all deportations, even of illegal immigrant rapists, murderers, and pedophiles
  • Opening the border and allowing an unlimited number of people to flood the country

What could go wrong?

THE LEFT WING OF THE POSSIBLE: HOW THE DSA WENT FROM THE MARGINS TO THE MAINSTREAM

The society the DSA describes is genuinely unrecognizable from the U.S. in every imaginable way. The only positive thing about the group is its refreshing candor. So often in our politics, radicals seeking political power masquerade as more moderate or reasonable than they actually are to deceive the public and fulfill their ambitions. The DSA, to its credit, flies its freak flag and embraces its extremism.

We must demand that their allies inside the Democratic Party do the same. Every single Democratic Party elected official, but especially the ones who have embraced DSA support, should be asked to disavow every single radical aspect of the DSA’s new agenda. And if they refuse to do so, they should be viewed as no less radical than their friends at the anti-American extremist organization that calls itself the Democratic Socialists of America.
