He added that the posts stemmed from his childhood “in an environment where drug and alcohol abuse were common” where he used “dark humor to cope with trauma I did not yet know how to process.”

The candidate website for Borrego stated that “when his father was incarcerated, his family faced eviction, uncertainty, and the kind of hardship too many families carry quietly.”

The posts on Twitter, now the social media platform X, were written between 2011 and 2013. He used terms racial slurs and lewd derogatory language.
