Police in New York City said an armed man set off an “incendiary device” outside a Manhattan federal building in what’s being investigated as a possible act of terrorism.

According to ABC News, video footage showed the suspect pouring some type of flammable liquid outside the building and then setting it on fire.

“Authorities say the person in custody is believed to be a protester with a history of anti-ICE activity,” ABC7 New York stated.

More from the New York Post:

The man was pulling a cart containing to long firearms, more fireworks and other items, sources told The Post.

Three people, including two firefighters, suffered minor injuries during the incident and were taken to an area hospital, sources said.

The Jacob K. Javits Federal Office Building is home to New York’s ICE field office in Manhattan as well as offices for the US Department of Homeland Security, immigration court and other federal agencies.

The historic building became a hotbed of arrests and detention during President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration last year.

“This morning an individual deployed an incendiary device outside of 26 Federal Plaza,” the FBI said in a statement.

“The individual has been taken into custody and the FBI New York Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating the incident,” it added.

ABC News shared further:

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the incident “deeply disturbing.”

“I’m relieved no one was seriously injured and that a suspect is in custody,” he wrote on social media. “… Our administration will continue to ensure that every New Yorker is safe in their city — and hold accountable any who threaten that.”
