Republicans Pick Up Redistricting Win In Federal Court Ruling

A federal court on Thursday upheld Tennessee’s redraw of its congressional districts ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

“A federal three-judge court has upheld Tennessee’s new congressional map against claims of racial gerrymandering under the 14th Amendment,” SCOTUS Wire stated.

Bloomberg Law shared further:

The Black Memphis residents whose overwhelmingly Democratic district was carved up “lack any direct evidence of racial motivation” in lawmakers’ decision to carve up their previous district and divvy it up into three other ones, the judges said as they denied a preliminary injunction. Instead, the new maps “are readily explainable by political motivations,” they said

In May, Tennessee’s GOP-led General Assembly redrew the state’s congressional map based on population and politics, not race, after the Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais.
