President Trump Puts Democrat Congress On Notice: ‘They’ll Send Over Things That Are Insane And I’ll Veto Them’

President Trump is not pretending the next two years will be easy.

Democrats are set to take control of Congress after a brutal midterm night for Republicans. But the White House still holds the pen, and President Trump is already making clear that the left will not get a free pass to turn its agenda into law.

His warning was about as direct as it gets: send him something insane, and he will veto it.

Here is President Trump explaining exactly how he plans to handle divided government:

.@POTUS on divided government: "It's been done before, as you know, numerous times. It's the power of veto — it's one of the stronger powers that a President has. They'll send over things that are insane and I'll veto them." pic.twitter.com/X4nhw7F57h

The warning carries real constitutional force. A Democratic Congress can pass bills, launch investigations and create plenty of political noise.

It cannot make legislation law over the president’s objection unless it can assemble the two-thirds majority required to override a veto in both chambers.

CBS News reports that President Trump had already mapped out this confrontation before the polls closed. He said he welcomed the “Mr. Veto” label and expects repeated vetoes to push Democrats toward negotiations rather than ideological wish lists.

The president also pointed to the Supreme Court’s decision in Trump v. Slaughter, which allowed him to remove Federal Trade Commission member Rebecca Slaughter. President Trump described that ruling as a major expansion of his control over the executive branch and said it would help form the legal foundation for additional executive action.

According to the report, White House discussions have focused on how the administration can keep moving on immigration, trade and management of the federal government even with hostile majorities on Capitol Hill.

That matters because the election exposed real political damage. President Trump agreed Wednesday that the Iran conflict and the resulting pressure on oil and gasoline prices hurt Republicans at the ballot box, even as he defended the military decision itself.

Here is his full answer on the loss, the war and the economic pressure voters felt:

🚨
BREAKING: President Trump agrees with JD Vance that Republicans lost the midterms because of the Iran war driving up oil prices, but he'd do it again and it was worth it

Republicans now have to absorb that message without surrendering the agenda voters sent President Trump to Washington to carry out. The voters who stayed home or crossed over did not elect Democrats to erase the border crackdown, reverse the trade agenda or hand the administrative state back to the same permanent bureaucracy Trump has spent years fighting.

Fox News reports that President Trump congratulated Democrats after the results came in and said he was willing to work with them for the good of the country. He also made the price of obstruction unmistakable: if Democrats refuse to deal and send over radical legislation, he will veto it.

The president said he has already spoken with Democrats and believes some of them will eventually choose governing over gridlock. His expectation is simple: after enough vetoes, lawmakers who want something to show their voters will have to come to the table.

This clip captures the other half of the strategy. President Trump is ready to block the left, but he is also leaving the door open for a deal that actually serves the country:

🚨
President Trump just announced he's already spoken with Democrat leaders who want to make deals to stop him from becoming "Mr. Veto."

"I'll consider doing whatever is good and appropriate for the country."

The midterms changed the battlefield. They did not strip President Trump of the constitutional weapons that come with the presidency.

Democrats can spend the next two years producing performative bills and partisan investigations, or they can negotiate with a president who has made his red line clear. Either way, a change in congressional control does not erase the MAGA agenda.

“Mr. Veto” is ready.
