Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha discusses President Donald Trump comparing Abdul el Sayed to the hijackers who took over United Flight 93 during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

“He’s going pedal to the metal at this point,” Concha said Sunday on Fox News’s The Big Weekend Show. “As far as painting el Sayed as a danger, like not even like, ‘I disagree with his policies’ — [Trump is saying,] ‘He is a danger if he actually gets to the U.S. Senate.’”

In an escalation of rhetoric against el Sayed, Trump compared voting against the Democratic Senate nominee to the heroism of Todd Beamer, one of the passengers who fought back against the hijackers, helping crash the plane in Pennsylvania away from its target.

“Twenty-five years later, Michigan needs to stand up and fight, just like Todd did, to stop a jihadist from walking into the Capitol,” Trump said Sunday at a rally in Detroit.

Concha said Michigan’s Senate race feels like “the biggest race of them all,” adding it was the difference between “common sense versus chaos.”

“I think that’s why this feels like the biggest race because all those other races could be more about policy; this feels different,” Concha said. “This is something that if an el Sayed can win here, a guy who is Muslim, a guy who has never held public office before, and a guy who wants government-run healthcare, alright, these are very radical things.”

Concha said what happens in Michigan could determine whether the country sees any socialist candidates running in the 2028 presidential election.

“If el Sayed can win in a state that Donald Trump won twice, then therefore, that is a green light to [U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY)] that, ‘Ah, socialism can be a national brand, it can win in a swing state,’ and that will trigger her run for the presidency,” Concha said.
